We were lucky to catch up with James Cox recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, James thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Talk to us about building a team – did you hire quickly, how’d you recruit the first few team members? Any interesting lessons?
Staring a new business can be a little intimidating, or a little scary for some to think about.
I was at that point 3 years ago when I started the podcast called “When Words Fail Music Speaks”! I had a idea to create a podcast talking about how music can battle depression in so many ways but I was struggling on how to approach it… I’ve been realize that I could talk about has the Power to take away, depression, just by listening to music at certain times, or even all the time.
Building the team to make a business successful is one of the true statements of all time… You need people to understand you share the same passion as you do with the creators project.

James, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
A little bit about me –
I am now 44 years old… Born with cerebral palsy, son to, a colonel in the Air Force, as well as a son to a substitute teacher as my mom taught for years. I have a sister and she has two children and a husband. I lived a pretty decent life. We moved around a lot, because my father was stationed in the Philippines, Florida, and Virginia.
I got into podcasting because I thought it would be fun and it would help other people as well as it has now. What makes us different from the others is I’ve never heard of a podcast that talks about how music helps and heals depression.
We are very very proud of how far we have come along. It takes time building up anything, and I think that we are on the right path to make this into a full business.
What we want our listeners to know that if you think you are alone in this battle with depression, and or anxiety, know that you are not alone. Somebody out there loves you as much as we do. We made his podcast for you because we do not want you to feel like we do when we are depressed!

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Blake Moseley –
The best cohost I’ve ever had. I’ve had a few cohost in the past, but Blake is one of the true partners that you would ever want to start a business with. I’m at Blake at college in Sumter South Carolina, I can’t remember the year, but I do know that we’ve met in college. We never had classes together, but we knew through a mutual friend of ours, I think…? I’ve had a few podcasts with him, but they never worked out due to the subject of them not because of our friendship. I’ve been started to think about making a music podcast, but I didn’t know what it would be or entail. I asked Blake if he would help me host this new podcast surrounding music, as we weren’t sure of what the essence of the show would be about.
At a person who says that he is or has a vast useless of knowledge, he delivers it tenfold he knows more about music than I will ever know. If you have a music question that you think that nobody would know… More than likely Blake knows it!
Blake and I have been doing this podcast since February of 2020!
Amanda Dolin –
Sometime before September 1st 2023, about a week earlier, I asked Amanda Dolin to join Blake and I in this podcast adventure to turn this into a business/company in which I dream of to this day. Amanda is extremely wonderful in helping me interview musicians (Which is very much needed).
It was just a year ago that I was interviewed by her on her own very podcast “The Mental Society” We had such a blast talking through the hour interview that after the interview we continued talking for another four hours!! She brings A LOT to the table.
Both of the hosts I just told you about is the best of the best at what they do. I can’t be more grateful for all of their help!Blake Moseley –

Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I think it was a fad, I never hear of people talk about NFT’s anymore.
