We were lucky to catch up with James Boggs recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, James thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea of JB Addo Clothiers was born out of necessity. I started a non-profit Veteran Service Organization called TEAM ADDO back in 2014. Our main goal and mission is to Suit Up as many transitioning service members as we can. The challenges we faced doing this was to provide high quality American made products at an affordable price. Not only trying to provide an American Made product but for both men and women service members. There is no Women’s Wearhouse like there is for men, so it was always challenging to provide the same quality product, but also the same amount of options. After being introduced to a manufacturer here in the US, who works for a manufacturer who’s been making suits for the past 100 years, we joined forces to create the label JB Addo Clothiers.

James, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I served on active duty in the US Marines for ten years as an air traffic controller, recruiter and joint tactical controller. After my service in the Marines was up I served the City of Lakeland, Florida as police officer for three years. I decide to go back into the military, but this time as a Warrant Officer in the US Army flying Blackhawk helicopters. I served ten years in the Army retiring in 2018. Prior to retiring I created TEAM ADDO in 2014 to give back and support my fellow brothers and sisters in arms. From 2014 to November 2022 I served as the president of the board for TEAM ADDO and now serve as the executive director of TEAM ADDO. As the founder and CEO, I run the daily operations JB Addo Clothiers hand in hand with my position as the executive director of TEAM ADDO. I am excited to offer custom made to measure suits and formal wear to anyone and everyone who wants high quality bespoke clothing.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I know for me at least in life, my path is ever changing. My faith on the other hand is not. My desire to serve others is a direct relationship I have with Jesus Christ. There I find comfort and peace with the many directions my life has taken. I thought when I retired from the Army I would be an airline pilot and I was excited about that. But God had different plans. Looking back His plan was and still is greater than mine.

How’d you meet your business partner?
Life is all about relationships. Every point in life, not matter what we are doing, there is an opportunity to meet someone. I was introduced to Adam Bird back in 2019 through a mutual friend. There are times you just know you are going to be great friends with someone right when you meet them. They make you a better person. I can’t speak for Adam, but for me at least that’s the way it went down. So when I decided to start JB Addo Clothiers, Adam was the first person I called to see if he wanted in. I would say that’s all she wrote, but there are so many more chapters to be written.
