We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful James A Norkawich. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with James A below.
James A , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I am a pianist and organist by trade, started playing at the age of 3 and then asked my parents if i could take lessons. My grandfather Albert Kaufman played by ear and had 13 organs in his home so music was surrounding me. I then took private lessons in my home where i played and honed in my skills till i had reached high school. When in high school i was accepted in a program after school in the arts called the regional center for the arts where i learned from music professionals and professors and that helped to get me not only a 4 year scholarship for my undergraduate degree, but i also recieved my masters degree and also recieved a scholarship to the university of bridgeport, in bridgeport connecticut.
James A , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I got in the field because at a young age i had and have such a love for music. If it was something i heard on tv or radio i wanted to play it and ive never stopped learning or listening ! Even today !
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Of course ! When i first started there we didnt have the technology, how ever i never knew that there were resources in every state for people who want to study music in the states. Talk with your schools and see what programs are out there. Always ask questions and never give up. Keep on playing !
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes to write, produce , compose music that has so much meaning to me and to write original music that will touch people here and around the world.
