We were lucky to catch up with James recently and have shared our conversation below.

James, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.

I purchased a home and it had a formal dinning room. A good friend of mine said you should make a table set for that room. I made one and others told me I should start selling them. And Farmhouse Style Furniture started. I started making just tables and benches and it quickly evolved to living room furniture, bedroom furniture and now we are furnishing the whole house including kitchens, laundry, bathrooms and mudrooms.

In 2012, James’ friend asked him to build a dining table because he knew James enjoyed woodworking. This simple request sparked a passion in James, and soon, people started noticing his work. Orders began pouring in as customers loved his unique and custom-made pieces. By 2017, it became clear to James that he needed to leave his regular job and devote himself entirely to woodworking. Since then, James and his team have made a name for themselves by creating affordable custom furniture.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.

I did some work for a customer and her now husband came in one day and said, hey are you hiring? I said yes. And it started from there.
