We recently connected with Jameelah Bennett and have shared our conversation below.
Jameelah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
At Hyman Consulting, we believe every organization can achieve growth, inclusivity, and excellence through robust talent development and comprehensive mental health and wellness programs. For over two decades, we’ve helped small and medium-sized businesses in education, healthcare, social services, nonprofits, and government excel.
My social work roots are the cornerstone of our mission. Working in underserved communities, I witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by both clients and frontline staff. This experience ignited a passion for supporting organizations in creating healthier, more effective workplaces.
Our focus is on delivering tailored training and consulting solutions that boost employee performance and strengthen organizational culture. We’re committed to exceptional service, fostering a supportive environment, and empowering our clients to thrive. By combining our expertise with a deep understanding of human needs, we create lasting impact.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My background in social work and non-profit behavioral health/social services is how I started in talent development.
We specialize in nationwide talent development solutions for small and medium-sized organizations. We cater to educational, healthcare, social service, and non-profit institutions, as well as state and local government agencies.
At Hyman Consulting, we address several key challenges our customers face:
1. **Talent Development**: Enhancing employee skills and leadership capabilities through tailored training programs.
2. **Employee Well-being**: Providing mental health and wellness support to promote a healthy work environment.
3. **Organizational Efficiency**: Streamlining onboarding processes and ensuring compliance and safety training.
4. **Behavioral Healthcare Needs**: Offering specialized training in mental health, trauma-informed care, and substance use disorders.
5. **Conflict Resolution**: Equipping organizations with effective conflict management strategies.
6. **Inclusivity and Support**: Fostering a supportive and inclusive culture for all employees.
Our mission is to empower organizations by addressing these challenges, enabling them to thrive in a dynamic business environment.
What sets us apart from the competition includes:
1.Our foundation in social work and experience in underserved communities give us a unique perspective on both client and staff needs, both professionally and personally.
2. We combine behavioral healthcare knowledge with talent development to provide holistic solutions.
3. Our focus on quality and attentiveness ensures we meet and exceed client expectations.
4. We build strong, empathetic relationships with our clients, setting us apart through genuine care and support.
5. We heavily focus on dynamic, engaging, and fun courses to not only enhance skills but also create safe and inclusive learning spaces.
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
For years, I juggled a full-time job with building my L&D business on the side. Evenings and weekends were dedicated to serving small organizations across Philadelphia. While demanding, this period was incredibly rewarding. Interacting with new clients, crafting innovative courses, and immersing myself in diverse industries fueled my passion for learning and development. Key milestones during this time included expanding our expertise to focus on IDD and DD populations, developing comprehensive L&D plans for nascent organizations, and breaking new ground by addressing behavioral health needs within culturally sensitive contexts.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Realizing that my business wasn’t scaling as anticipated, I shifted focus from operational tasks to strategic growth. Enrolling in the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Business program was a pivotal decision. This experience prompted a fundamental shift in my perspective, transitioning from working in the business to working on the business. I honed my marketing strategy, expanded our consultant team, redefined our growth trajectory, and refined our core service offerings.
