We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jameel Petry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jameel below.
Alright, Jameel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My mother was very influential in my journey of chasing my dreams. I added the “s” on purpose because my dreams often changed. My mom always encouraged, and supported me 100%. I think having such support made this journey easier and of course I’m aiming to make her proud.
Jameel , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I was introduced to the aesthetics industry through my short career as a beauty advisor at Macys. A coworker of mine attended an institute AIA. I heard her sometimes in depth discussing skin concerns and analyzing clients skin. She always ragged about how much she learned and foundation the theory of skin provided for her. I eventually caved in and decided to visit the institute to explore my possibilities. I later started my first semester at The Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics, what a journey. I was such an emotional experience and then came Covid which added another 7 months to my original 14 month program. I didn’t learn much about the business through school bit I definitely fell down a few times before finding my way. I encourage anybody looking to be successful in this industry to follow heart. The few spas I worked at weren’t the best yet I still learned a lot. I took my interactions with clients seriously and it always got me noticed and remembered they were able to feel my passion. I naturally was there to make their experience unique in my own way. That alone sets me apart from others in my industry. I’m currently working at a Medspa in Powder Springs, Georgia The Luxe Medspa. I offer skin consultations, Hydrafacials, Laser Hair Removal and chemical peels. I love providing information and being helpful to those who suffer with skin conditions and insecurities. I’m currently enrolled at Georgia State University to receive a Bachelors in Nursing to offer even more services.
If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Yes aesthetics is truly my passion. Each day I’m at the spa I feel overjoyed to be making money doing what I love.
We’d love to hear about you met your business partner.
I was on Indeed and applied to a job posting as normal. A few minutes later I received a call from Britney who’s now my boss and I’ve been with her for almost a year.
