Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jameel Martin. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jameel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Our mission at Couples Club Golf League is to bring couples together through the love of golf, creating opportunities for connection, community, and shared experiences both on and off the course. This mission holds personal significance because I’ve seen how golf has the power to strengthen relationships and build meaningful bonds. CCGL was inspired by the belief that couples deserve a fun and inclusive space to grow closer while engaging with a supportive and vibrant community.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I was introduced to the game of golf by my father, who taught me not only how to play but also how the game could teach life lesson like patience, perseverance, and connection. That foundation inspired my love for the sport and ultimately led me to pursue this exciting new business venture: creating a world where couples can enjoy the game of golf together. I played competitive golf from the age of 9, continuing through high school, where my dedication and skill earned me a full golf scholarship to Talladega College. There, I not only developed my game but also earned my bachelor’s degree in business, which has been instrumental in building and growing the Couples Club Golf League.
What sets this league apart is our focus on making golf a fun and welcoming experience for couples. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, we want you to feel comfortable and happy on the course, sharing a round with your partner and building friendship that could last a lifetime.
I’m incredibly proud of the challenges I’ve overcome to bring this vision to life. Launching the Couples Club Golf League has been a journey of growth and dedication, and my team and I are working tirelessly to ensure the 2025 season is a memorable experience for every couple. From the courses we’ve selected to the thoughtful events we’re planning; every detail is designed to create moments you’ll cherish with your loved one.
As its core, CCGL is about more than just golf-it’s about connection, community, and creating lasting memories. We want our couples and followers to know they’ll find a supportive, inclusive, cool environment with us.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
One story that truly illustrates my resilience is my battle with childhood cancer during my senior year of high school. At a time when most teenagers are preparing for graduation and their futures, I was fighting for my life. The experience changed me forever, leaving me not only with the physical scars but also the emotional weight of survivor’s remorse.
To experience surgeries that caused significant setbacks in my life taught me how to persevere through pain and adversity. Despite these obstacles, I’ve chosen to focus on the things I can control, channeling my energy into building something meaningful.
In addition to that, I was involved in a devastating head on car collision with a close friend. I’ll never forget the fear and helplessness I felt as I saw him pinned in the driver’s seat, unable to do anything to help. I was thankful, we both eventually recovered by the grace of God, I blamed myself for years. That guilt weighed on me, but over time, it also taught me the importance of gratitude and forgiveness-both for others and for myself.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was believing that everyone who enters your life has your best interests at heart. Growing up, I valued the power of family and the unconditional supports they provided, but I didn’t always apply the same wisdom when it came to friendship. I thought loyalty meant holding on to everyone, even when they brought negativity into my life.
The turning point came during some of the toughest challenges I faced. I realized that not everyone is your friend, and choosing the right people to keep in your circle is crucial for your mental and emotional well-being.
I had to make the hard decisions to remove negative people from my life, even if it meant stepping away from relationships I had held onto for years. This wasn’t easy, but it taught me that surrounding yourself with positivity and people who genuinely uplift you is essential for growth. Now, I focus on cultivating meaningful connections that align with my values and goals, whether in business, friendship, or life.
