We recently connected with Jamarr Farmer and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jamarr thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I see that everything in life is about taking risk. I look at the media that praises the few that “make it” in comparing to the those that done with is an hall of a lot more. That’s when i starting looking at music and podcasting as passions that gives chance to be me and contribute to the world. I do work an fulltime however, I disciplined myself to not be so depending on just that job but give my energy to my creative passion. I value time to creative absolute most and embrace the positivity and humble myself to the negative of these risk taking on how my projects are received.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jamarr Farmer but people call me mostly by my Stage name Jamarr Jabari. I chose Jabari because it means Brave in Swahili That meaning is the essence of my creative journey, In the music I play want to show the greatest of the Africans diaspora, building working class power, and believing in Pan-Africanism. I have been in a few bands and solo protects the biggest project is the album “One” that was an collaborative piece with people all over the world. the Album is by the band Light warriors which I was an member of. The music is still getting hundreds of thousands of plays. Pivot over to starting my Podcast the Jabari VOC Podcast which I cover Music. Politics and Culture. On this platform I cover many topics around Music Politics and culture. My Podcast Audio was just recently used on Nigerian Artist TeeDeeVee on his Ep “lust in Love” on the track “Abena”. I am taking break on Community organizing but I have been involved in the PSL “party for Socialism and Liberation for almost an decade working on union struggle, police brutality marches, Anti war efforts pro peace. I have worked on a lot of things through the years while doing music and working, how did I have the time.
The main focus besides my mental health is building my Podcast and Brand. I want to make sure that when people listen to me they fall in love with music and culture even more while also hearing working class issues because I believe two things these element connect and that if workers show everything we have in common and not focus on what divides us we can have power and unity.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
You know? I look at goals as not that important, I have had so many failure from non-profits, bands and arts. These experiences has made me continue to create and reinvent myself. I have found myself to be proud of failure proud of growing and humbling. So on the question of goals never it doesn’t worked for me just my way of thinking. The mission Is to contribute all i can do the help bring Change for our communities that is what drives.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding is freedom and sanity I don’t know what would I be if I couldn’t create content I need an outlet to express myself.
