We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jamar Robinson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jamar below.
Alright, Jamar thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
The biggest professional risk I’ve taken started this year. On June 2, 2023 at 8:33am, the Universe dropped an order inside of my head. The below message was crafted and sent to a up and coming cannabis brand:
“It’s time for the cannabis industry to transition into the fitness industry. There’s some many athletes and active people that partake. Let’s talk about building the bridge.
Peace and blessings,
Jamar”
Crazy right? But hey, every new thought is crazy until it isn’t. As the world began to come out of COVID, one would think days were beginning to get brighter. For me they were getting darker. A life riddled with professional and personal woes had left me feeling lost. After a year and half of being on an emotional roller coaster, I was able lean on my spiritual resources (most important ones being movement and meditation) and pull myself together. On my journey to redemption, my cannabis usage increased. Initially my usage teeter tottered between over use and abuse. I think my sheer will of wanting more for myself helped me get the habit under control. But during the process of gaining self control, I unintentionally experienced a couple workout sessions under the influence of cannabis. The first couple of times, I thought to myself “hmmm that was a good workout. I was really locked in.”. But I paid it no mind. Chalking it up to me just really being on that particular day. Then it happened again, and again, and again! Me being a former chemist, it wasn’t hard for me to draw the correlation. Before you knew it, I would occasionally partake in a pre cannabis session with my fellow gym members and we all shared the same experience. Just like magic, The “High On Health” movement was born. Along this journey I have met so many Pro Cannabis high performers. From professional athletes to senior level executives. All responsible cannabis practitioners. Hence June 2nd message. There’s so many negative and false narratives around cannabis. Myself and so many other are physical examples of responsible cannabis usage. No emotion numbing, no insane munchies, no couch potato lifestyle and I am not walking around spaced out. For me, responsible use of cannabis helps me focus my creative energy, speed up recovery, lock in on the task and tune in to the mind and body connection. When done in balance and practiced in moderation. Cannabis should be used in fitness like any other supplement, you find out the dosage that works for you and use it accordingly. I am completely aware of the hazards of smoke in the body and lungs. But just like any other prescription drug, over the counter drug and everything else. It’s risk vs reward. Every prescription/over the counter drug has side effect (risk), but it “helps” whatever “ailment” it is fighting (reward). It’s the same idea and process. My thought process is this, people are going to do it anyway, and we are going to have more and more new cannabis practitioners as more states become cannabis friendly. Wouldn’t it be smart to start teaching responsible use, especially when there is therapeutic benefits. Fast forward to present time, my post and messages are being received well by many, the nay sayers come with the. territory. I am always open to a conversation and more then happy to share my experience. I was a chemist for 6 years of my life. I know how to collect data, analyze it and cross reference results. On top of being spiritually inclined. I have the experience and background to at least be heard.
This movement has garnered the attention of many and I hope for the opportunity to have this discussion on a larger scale. This November I will release my second book and first book on this subject entitled “High On Health The Balanced High: Cannabis, Fitness and Mindful Living”. Things are about to get real interesting.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I got into the fitness industry full time and established PlayHrdTrainHrd in 2012, as I transitioned from a college adjunct chemistry professor to a full time personal trainer. My career moved pretty fast. By 2014 I was a Nike trainer. After a 6 yr stint with Nike, it was back to PlayHrdTrainHrd. At PlayHrdTrainHrd we specialize in personal/group training, corporate wellness programming and staffing and corporate wellness event coordinating. We’ve worked with the City of Atlanta, Home Depot Backyard and the TV and Film industry to name a few. We focus on serving the mind, body and spirit to lead to a overall higher quality of life
I’m must proud of our ability to go against the status quo while in the pursuit of truth.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
I tell up and coming trainers all the time, “Who you know will get you in the door, and what you know will keep you there!”. Health and Wellness is science based. Science is forever changing, so always be open to learn. This understanding goes hand and hand with communication. Once you’ve obtained the knowledge, you have to have the ability to communicate it to your client. Always look for opportunities to sharpen your communication skills.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I sure we all have heard this story a million times, but COVID made us all pivot. Especially if you were in the health and wellness business for more gyms and facilities closed. But I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. COVID forced me to increase my digital and social media skills as my practice was transitioned to online 100%. Creating me another stream of income. One that I still have as the world has opened back up.
