We recently connected with Jamal Williams and have shared our conversation below.
Jamal, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I created The Add App because I saw the gap — the gap between passionate small business owners and the everyday customers who need them most. After 15 years of working in customer service, I knew one thing for sure: people aren’t just looking for products — they’re looking for connection, affordability, and trust.
As a father, a creator, and someone who’s spent years helping others, I’ve watched too many incredible entrepreneurs struggle to be seen — not because they lack talent, but because they lack exposure.
That’s when I realized: what if there was a bridge?
A way to connect real people to real businesses — in their neighborhoods, in their cities, in their communities. Not through algorithms or ads they couldn’t afford, but through access.
So I built The Add App — a free business directory powered by Forbes — designed to help customers discover exclusive deals, discounts, and local favorites, all in one simple scroll. It’s about leveling the playing field. It’s about making sure the hairstylist, the bakery, the fitness coach, and the clothing brand all have the same shot at being discovered as the big names.
But more than that, it’s about empowerment.
It’s about giving business owners a voice.
It’s about helping customers save money while supporting real people.
And at its heart, The Add App is about community.
Because when small businesses win, families win. Neighborhoods win.
And we all move forward — together.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jamal Williams, and I’m a father, creative entrepreneur, seasoned customer service expert, and the founder of The Add App — a free, Forbes-powered business directory built to connect everyday people to real, local businesses offering exclusive deals, discounts, and value.
For over 15 years, I worked in customer service and client relations — from banking to photography and everything in between. I gained firsthand insight into what people truly want: authentic connection, affordability, and ease. At the same time, I watched countless small business owners — talented, hard-working people — struggle to reach the very customers looking for them. Not because they lacked skill, but because they lacked visibility and tools.
That’s when my mission was born.
I built The Add App as a digital bridge — something powerful, yet easy to use. A one-stop shop where customers could save money and discover local services, and where businesses could finally compete with major brands without paying thousands in ad dollars. Whether you’re looking for a hairstylist, real estate agent, boutique, food truck, financial expert, or therapist — you’ll find them on The Add App.
But my work doesn’t stop at just building an app.
I’m a content creator, podcast host, and directory curator. My platform also helps entrepreneurs get the exposure they deserve through storytelling, spotlight interviews, and strategic promotion.
I’ve also launched the P.S. You’re Not Alone podcast — a deeply personal platform focused on mental health, forgiveness, single parenthood, and spirituality. It’s a space where I use my own journey to connect with others, reminding them they’re seen, valued, and never alone.
What sets me apart?
It’s not just tech — it’s the heart behind it. I genuinely care. I’ve lived the struggle, I know the grind, and I’ve built something I wish existed for myself and others years ago. Every feature on The Add App was created with intention and inclusion — whether it’s the ability for users to message businesses directly or the spotlight section that uplifts Black-owned, women-led, and underserved entrepreneurs.
I’m most proud of the community we’re building — a movement where small businesses win, customers save, and everyone thrives together.
Here’s what I want people to know:
• The Add App is more than a directory — it’s a revolution in how we connect and support each other.
• You don’t need a massive budget to reach thousands — you just need the right platform.
• I’m here to serve. To help others grow. And to prove that with consistency and love for people, anything is possible.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When I first envisioned The Add App, I didn’t have a trust fund, a room full of investors, or even a tech background. What I had was a dream, a strong work ethic, and a deep understanding of people — from 15+ years in customer service.
Like many entrepreneurs, I started with what I had: my savings, built up over years of working full-time jobs and freelancing. I scaled back on luxuries. I delayed vacations. I made sacrifices to make sure every dollar went into building something that could serve others. I believed in the mission that much.
I also worked with what I call “relationship capital” — leaning into my network, mentors, and trusted connections who could help point me in the right direction, vet developers, and guide me through the start-up process. My mentor, Mr. Wilson, an executive with Forbes, became an invaluable source of advice and direction, especially as I began exploring ways to align with brands and build real credibility.
Instead of chasing fast funding, I focused on smart growth — taking time to build a strong foundation and brand identity. I launched content across social media, built community trust, and created anticipation before the app even launched. And when people saw the vision, some believed in it enough to contribute resources, time, or partnerships to help bring it to life.
Was it easy? Absolutely not.
But was it worth it? Every second.
I funded The Add App through grit, discipline, and purpose. No shortcuts. No overnight success. Just real work and the belief that if I could help small businesses shine and give customers a better way to shop and save, the rest would follow.
And now, we’re growing — rapidly.
Not because we started with millions, but because we started with mission.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I first started developing The Add App, I ran out of funds midway through the process. I had already invested my savings, and the pressure was real — bills didn’t stop, and neither did life. Instead of quitting, I picked up side gigs, cut back on everything, and leaned on prayer, faith, and pure determination. I kept building, one step at a time. That season taught me that resilience isn’t about having it all together — it’s about moving forward even when everything says stop.
