We were lucky to catch up with Jalyn Webb recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jalyn , thanks for joining us today. Have you ever had an amazing boss, mentor or leader leading you? Can you us a story or anecdote that helps illustrate why this person was such a great leader and the impact they had on you or their team?
The best boss I have ever had i the one I have currently. He is kind, and firm. He has a passion for theatre and the arts, and most importantly for people. He cares about his team, and also the audience that we serve. I don’t know anyone that has the level of integrity that he has, and I am so grateful for his leadership.
Jalyn , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have had a long career in the arts, and in sales. They do go hand in hand for me, in a great way! When I was first starting out in the business I worked in Sales to be able to continue my career as a musical theatre performer. I found out that some of the same characteristics that made me a great actor also made me a great sales person and it really all came down to relationships. Being able to connect to a customer was a lot like connecting to an audience member, and I really love that aspect of both parts of my business. As the Director of Sales and Marketing, I get to interact with all of our patrons on a nearly daily basis. I love visiting tableside with every single patron and learning about their lives, their stories and their wants and needs. The same thing occurs when I am performing- I want everyone in the audience to be drawn into the story that we are sharing from the stage.
One of the things I am most proud of as the DIrector of Sales and Marketing is my relationships with our customers, and also with my team. I am grateful that in most of my jobs, I have been fortunate to have very little turnover- people like to stay a part of the team long term and that makes me really happy!
Have you ever had to pivot?
I think the most obvious pivot was during the pandemic. As a theatre- and a dinner theatre nonetheless, we had the two most difficult industries combined into one. We found ways to continue to create, including outdoor parking lot concerts, removing tables so that we could have some people in the audience, keeping the actors seperate from the audience for a time and finding ways to produce smaller shows with smaller audience sizes to keep the theatre open . It was a struggle for sure every day- but we fought through it, and came out the other side even stronger.
