We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jalyn Glasco a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jalyn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear how you think where to draw the line in terms of asking friends and family to support your business – what’s okay and what’s over the line?
I love my family because when I need help with my Catering jobs they are always there for me to help to complete my orders and get them delivered on time and smoothly. Without them, I wouldn’t have come as far.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the culinary field and started my business in 2022. I have always loved cooking and baking and I love the compliments and my customers coming back to book with me. That’s why I decided to do something I love to do and that’s how Catering By Jalyn came to be.
To get my business out I offered free tasting of my food and desserts to get customers rolling in. I did Pop-up shops, vendor events, KC fashion week, and Wedding expo.
I had to stay focused for me to see the outcome of my success by limiting myself from doing certain things to get my business up and running and have the funds to be where I am now and ask for help.
I provide Food & Desserts. Let me know what you would like and I can make it. I offer taste testing as well before booking.
I would like more customers for my business to turn this into a full-time job and make a living by doing something I admire.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When I started my journey to become a Caterer things were rough. I didn’t have the funds to keep going are the business of customers and I wanted to give up but a friend asked me to cater the Kansas City fashion week and that brought the clientele I needed to keep going.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
I had to be disciplined by not doing as many fun things as I loved to, to save money to get my business established and registered and get the equipment I needed to be the best Caterer.
