We were lucky to catch up with Jalise Johnson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jalise, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you find your key vendor or vendors? Maybe you can share the backstory and share some context and the relevant details to help us understand why you chose them, why they chose you, etc.

In March 2021 we placed our items in a store called Uplift Us MarketPlace. We found out about this new and upcoming location via instagram. Instantly I reached out to inquire about placing my items in store and offered to bring in samples. Once I’d met with the owners they loved the samples and we proceeded with a contract.

We chose to partner with Uplift Us Marketplace because they were a new establishment creating a safe space for Black Owned Businesses to place their products. I think they allowed us to partner due to the quality of product we provided as well as the turn around time on placing new desserts in store.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Jalise Johnson and I am the owner & treat confectionist of InfusedBerries4U! I started my business back in 2014 and I’m Blessed to say 9yrs later we are still in business. Over the years it has taken a lot of Prayer, Discipline and Consistency to stay relevant in this industry.

We were most known for our Chocolate Covered Infused Strawberries. We have since grown and now offer a larger variety of items! Our goal is to be a 1 stop shop for all of your Cakes, Treats & Desserts.

What problems do we solve for our clients? Our goal is to provide top quality products at an affordable cost.

I am most proud of my growth. I sometimes look at my work and I am truly wow’d at the finished product. If you would have asked me a few years ago would I be doing cakes, i’d quickly respond “thats out of my league”. Today I love to create a good number cake and a set of cupcakes!

I’d like for anyone reading this to know the sky is the limit! Never give up and always get busy when the creative juices get flowing.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

I had to unlearn being stuck in my ways and only providing one product. For years I only provided chocolate covered strawberries because I was afraid to try new things and the product not meet my standards. So I started practicing on cupcakes, fondant pieces and new chocolate covered treats. Once I offered more, I gained more clientele.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

During Covid 19 when major retail stores/bakeries shut down this was my opportunity to shine light on my products! We began offering Cakes, Cupcakes and more. Our clientele grew as well as our reputation within our community.
