We caught up with the brilliant and insightful JaLisa Spy a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
JaLisa, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
I have a meaningful mission behind my journey because not only do my kids look up to me I look up to me, I want to prove myself wrong about actually making it. I have did everything with good intentions. I’m based out of Ohio and , I have had a business suite out of state Atlanta, Ga to be exact mean while in school studying to be a cosmetologist and also fully running my business suite in Akron ohio. I then opened a storefront in Massolin, Ohio so at one point running 3 locations expecting the best outcome on top of school being a mother. I did all of that and still not fully where I want to be! Im now back down to just one location while I figure out what is the Next big move for me. My mission is still to win and expand and make my next moves better than my lasts ones. So I can continue to beat the odds. I may not be exactly where I want yet but I haven’t gave up and That puts my percentages of meeting my goals and winning my mission better than the average person. During this transition I collaborated with a huge you tube star and a large following on instagram who wore my wig unit, she has over 350k followers! That made me a wig celebrity stylist specialist something I never thought would happen. That gave my mission more meaning, this is a marathon not a race I’m one of the few who actually understand that statement.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I started my brand to make women feel beautiful, everyone cant grown long beautiful hair and I wanted to be that person that can do that for them. I even got into medical wig units, earning my cranial prothesis certificate. Women can use their insurance to pay for wig units that will allow them access to multiple hair units to build their confidence during a rough time in their lives. I have educated myself on the benefits and I handle all billing. I also sale cosmetic wigs as well for normal purposes and hair care for your units. I install your wigs to ensure the natural look leaving my shop! I have all kinds of hair I use the term premium and luxury depending on your budget so I can turn no client away.
My name for my brand I came up with by using my name I wanted to stay authentic. Its called “I Spy Her” everything for her needs. My name is Jalisa Spy so it’s very original and catchy.
One of my most proudest moments is just actually starting my business, years ago I never would of thought I would be here. Getting the taste of finally having something you wanted see through.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Im currently in the middle of a huge switch in my entrepreneurial career after 4 years with a location and 5 years being online I decided to go back to work and close all of my locations for the time being and pray that God reveals my next move. During this season in my entrepreneurial career I want to work on building more online traffic. Starting with my social media accounts and then my website. They both go hand and hand. I want a larger audience I would love to be global. I would love to have multiple celebrity clients so that I can travel more. So once my online takes off I can plan my next move slowly so that Its the best one.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I always hear I have very good customer service and I market well. I use social media to my advantage and I always have a good promotion going on. My name is catchy and easy to remember. Although all these things matter, another thing you want to have is great quality! People will pay for good hair and they will also return.
