We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jalil Pack. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jalil below.
Jalil , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about social media – do you manage your own or do you have someone or a company that handles it for you? Why did you make the choice you did?
I manage my social media pages, as I like to control what is posted and presented. I like the authenticity of connecting with the audience and engaging with them. So far, the engagement has been great, especially with my TikTok page.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Jalil Pack, I’m 27, born and raised in the city of Charlotte, NC. I am what you would call a multifaceted creative; I’ve been a drummer/percussionist since the age of 5, I’ve done some acting in my younger years, write poetry, photograph in my spare time and I host a podcast called The JVY Podcast which recently turned 5 at the end of May 2024.
I think what sets me apart from others is my individuality. I’m not a person who likes to follow a lot of trends, nor the crowd for that matter. I’ve always liked authenticity in everything that I do and consume, so I want my audience to get that from me.
The few things I’m proud of are my consistency in the arts; my podcast with 7 seasons, my TikTok audience growing how it has, and my continued love & knowledge for music. The one thing I’m the proudest of is being able to tour with music in 2019, which was my dream. as a child. I loved the fact of my family being able to see me fulfill this goal and make them proud.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Learning how to be myself. Growing up, I wanted to be a part of the “in-crowd”, but I quickly realized that what they did never aligned with what I do. The question that would replay with me is “What can I do to be cool but do it in my way”? From that, I joined the marching band, joined the student council, did morning announcements, etc., and built a name for myself on my terms without compromising who I was for acceptance. Now, I feel at peace doing what I like, whether it’s considered the norm or not.

How did you build your audience on social media?
Everything with my social media audience can be attributed to Snapchat. When I was transitioning from High School (West Mecklenburg High School) to college (Catawba College) in 2015, my goal was to detach from how I was revered or looked at by peers- most of whom I’d grown up with, to grow into my person on this campus. Here was my step-by-step process: post a vocabulary word of the day to spread some knowledge, follow up introduction, and follow up with sharing interesting information; whether it be about campus events happening that week or random stories. I would also include music snippets of songs that I liked or those that I found at the moment.
Once I continued this process, more students around the campus picked up that I was doing this daily, which then led to me creating a radio show with a few of my friends (Jeremiah Moss, Alexis Beverley, and Austin Love) called The Cat-U Takeover, where we talked about various things on campus.
After graduating in 2019, the idea for The JVY Podcast came about, wanting to follow my dream of being a radio personality but having the freedom to express myself how I deemed fit. Once the pandemic arose in 2020, I continued the podcast and was introduced to an app called TikTok. At the time, the app surrounded dances, skits, and other great, in which I took advantage and made content based on my personality. Over time, the audience grew, resulting in the process of content creation to expand. As of today, I have 86.4k followers on TikTok.
The best piece of advice that I have is to continue to create at your OWN pace and do the things that you love to do. Don’t worry about judgment, don’t worry about those who may criticize, either. If you love to do it, keep at it. Consistency wins in the long run.
