We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jalen Williams a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jalen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
One of the biggest risks that I’ve taken was definitively moving to Atlanta. I was not sure if I was ready to make such a big move but I decided to go with my heart and take the risk anyway. Since moving to Atlanta, I have gained tons of opportunities and have been able to be in rooms I could have never imagined being in! It has not always been easy but I wouldn’t be doing anything that I am now had I not taken the risk and moved!
Jalen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always wanted to be an actor. I would study television shows and movies all the time growing up. When I moved to Atlanta I was referred to certain casting companies and decided to go for it! Since then, I have acted on shows for BET, FOX, Netflix & more! I also have been in a few music videos as well! I also have my own podcast entitled “Sip&Chat” where I interview different celebrities, influencers, & socialites. Sip&Chat is something I decided to start when I realized I wanted something completely of my own. I’ve always been told that I would be good to do a podcast so I decided to go for it! As I’m preparing the launch for its 3rd season, I can’t help but to be grateful for the success of the first two seasons!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is seeing my work come to light and people enjoying it!
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
In my opinion, some non-creatives struggle to understand why investing in your brand is very important. It may seem like a waste of time, money, or effort to them but I always see the bigger picture. I see myself making progress and getting closer to the end goal every time I invest into my brand. As long as I’m elevating and surpassing what I have previously done, I know I’m on the right track!
