We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jalen Thomas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jalen below.
Jalen, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
When I started ShineTV, I had no idea that it would one day turn into a full-fledged video production company. It all started with a simple idea: to film my little brother playing sports so I could then upload it to YouTube. But as ShineTV grew, we began to attract corporate clients who saw the value in strategic video production. And now, Fort Lauderdale is our home base where we help businesses of all sizes grow through the power of video.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
After I graduated high school I decided to join the Florida Army National Guard, this big jump helped me with the discipline that I needed to take on this entrepreneurship. I’ve been serving with them for the last five years and I’m loving every minute of it.
I got into this industry by filming sports, I then started my own company and we’ve been growing ever since. At ShineTV, we specialize in creating videos for service-based businesses. We know that these businesses need more than just great footage – they need videos that help them solve specific problems. That’s why we offer a comprehensive solution that includes filming, editing, and strategic advertising to reach the right target audience. Our clients trust us to deliver results that will help them generate more leads and make more money.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
When you’re first starting in the video industry, it is very challenging to the point where you might be busy one week, and then have no jobs for the next three weeks, it’s truly up and down at the beginning, but I promised myself that I won’t give up because the going got tough.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Video equipment is very expensive, the way I funded my business was by using the money I saved from working at Covid sites for the Florida National Guard, my initial investment to start was about $24,000.
