Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jalen Hunter. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jalen, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with a fun one – what’s something you believe that most people in your industry (or in general) disagree with?
I honestly think in my industry, there is a misconception that you need to talk about what any and everything that invoking sports in order to gain an audience. When podcasting, I think the number one thing you should do is talk about that YOU want to talk about.
The worst thing that can happen is you make content that you don’t love yourself. Your content will suffer and most people understand and can see you’re not being authentic, and ultimately not follow you. You need to make content for an audience of one; yourself; and people will eventually come!

Jalen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, Im a pretty simple person honestly. Im a kid from Maryland that has a lot of sports opinions (Some popular; some unpopular). I remember growing up, I was just like every other kids around my neighborhood and wanted to be a professional basketball player when I grew up. I quickly learned that it wasn’t in the cards for me so I pivoted and wanted to go into filmmaking. But I HATED IT!
One thing I did know however was that I loved sports! It was my comfort blanked through some hard times growing up. So I knew that whatever I did in life, sports where going to be involved. It wasn’t until college when I really figured out what I wasn’t to do. Shoutout to Mrs. Bradford (Rest in peace) that helped me understand my love for talking sports and being in fort of the camera.
It took a few years after college to really jump into this podcasting world (2019 to be exact) but Ive been doing it ever sense and haven’t looked back!

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think non-creatives will struggle to understand just how much work it takes to be a creative; Especially when you are a one man band! Having a two episode weekly podcast is pretty much a full time job. From searching and collecting information to talk about to editing and uploading, the work doesn’t stop! Which is a big reason why I say you have to LOVE doing this! If you are doing this for money or fame, It’s not going to work. All that COULD possibly come, but it is a very very long grind. Heck, I haven’t got paid a dime for my podcast yet, but I still LOVE doing it!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is simple. I get to see my mind and idea come to life and its crazy to me! It was always weird to me at first. Seeing myself on camera. Hearing my own voice. I was fully content with being behind the scenes. But now I LOVE it! And i’m always excited to grow day after day.
