We recently connected with Jalen Harris and have shared our conversation below.
Jalen , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
The reason why I am in sports is a risk. I was halfway through my sophomore year and I changed my major. I was a business major but I switched to a Kinesiology major. It was a significant risk for me because I was leaving the comfort of a business major to chase an unknown. I knew that I have a passion for sports and talking about it as a career. I decided to take the leap and go after something that interests me and makes me happy. I ended up changing my major and losing some credits. It has turned out great for me. I started getting internships, invited to conferences, and figuring out this career field was for me.

Jalen , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am a sport creative. I look to provide the sports fan with sports news and opinions. I want to be the person they look for in regard to sports as I start my career. I have my own sports podcast and social media accounts. It is called The Harris Huddle podcast. It is available on multiple platforms through Anchor and Spotify. I got into this industry on my own by having my own interest in sports and creating a podcast. I’m most proud that I am chasing my passion and I am doing it with this podcast and my career.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I want to be happy with what I am doing in my creative journey. I believe happiness is the key to life and creativity. Also, I want to have my own independent podcast network. I want to possibly own a building and do creative stuff with my podcast. My mission is to encourage others to chase what they want. I want to be the voice that succeeds no matter the background. I wasn’t a collegiate athlete or professional but I want to compete. I want to be able to stand in front of the camera and talk with other media greats.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Having people tell me they listen to my podcast and enjoy it. It builds my confidence to keep striving to improve and challenge myself to be creative. I love when people tell me they enjoy my voice. I love doing new things as a creative. I did narration and radio news this year and I enjoyed it. I love trying new creative things and challenging myself.
