We recently connected with Ja’Leeyna Dooley and have shared our conversation below.
Ja’Leeyna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
Truth be told, the first time I ever earned money for my craft, was at a talent show when I was 15 years old. I had placed first & received the $1500 cash prize. But the very first time that I generating revenue from my own creative work that was released was when I was 18 from my first officially released EP and after about three months I started to see that the distribution account that I used to release, had money available to withdraw. It was eally exciting at the moment and I honestly expected the amount every time I checked with an a three month span. I was brought to a harsh reality very quickly. The revenue that was generated on the initial release to 3 months in comparison to a 6mo to 12mo after release, and even looking at all of the other analytics, there was huge mark difference. Seeing this really helped me to realize that I needed to market more!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
So for me, Music is something that has been in my family for generations. I stem from a large Family who were a very talented vocalist and musicians, who either had untimely death or just did not take it as seriously due to the circumstances in our lives. My entire family has known and has pushed me to continue my music career no matter what because we all believe that it is a God-given talent and a blessing to others. I hope as a vocalist and performer that I’m able to bless people and continue to be the vessel that God needs me to be to do that and then I’m able to maintain that character that drew people in and will keep good people around. I love to sing & act (in a love-hate relationship with dance currently!) and I pray that with the talents that I have that I’m able to move people to do better, more and spread God’s message & love through my music!

How did you build your audience on social media?
I usually get the most interactions when I am free styling or when I remixed songs. I initially grew an online audience simply by doing mini talent shows and other events locally and my parents would run my social media.
But as I grew older and was able to do more interacting with fans myself I found that a lot of my Fanbase came from me remixing popular songs.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Honestly speaking, the main goal recently has been to do it for God and His glory.
As an R&B artist is hard to really say that I mean it, because so many people have their negative thoughts towards the genre itself. But I do plan to express my love and gratitude for God through R&B style music.
Obviously outside of that I want to be able to make people smile, relate and move people to (again , do more and be better) but also, Love more!!
