We recently connected with Jaleel James and have shared our conversation below.
Jaleel, appreciate you joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Growing up in the church, hearing talented musicians and singers that were never formally trained, then learning how to use FL studio in 2009 at 15.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an artist/producer from Hartsville, SC. I’ve been making music since 2010, but didn’t release my first beat tape until 2015, then my first self produced rap ep in 2016. I grew up loving the works of Outkast, DMX, Missy Elliot, Busta Rhymes, Kanye, and The Neptunes to name a few. As far as my artistry as of now, I’ve released an instrumental album (Unlimited), 3 Rap albums (Digital Danger the most recent), a collab ep (Live from the Woods with Heartbreak Hutch) and numerous collab and solo instrumental eps. I have never been classically trained in music so everything you hear, from me, was learned by ear. My music is very personable and soulful, as I pride myself on have a verse that will not be hard to learn, but just as witty as the best writer you’ve met. From doing numerous shows throughout South Carolina, to opening up for Curren$y, as well as receiving acclaim from numerous legends in the industry for my skill, I can confidently say that anything you hear from Jaleel aka Bluflame James will be as electrifying as the first time you’ve heard the name.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My main goal has just been establishing a connection with people. This world can be just as cold as it can be amazing, and from personal experience, your mind state and consistency will be what powers not only you survival, but also your individuality. If just one person could connect with the way I make noise from my computer, I would say that my spirit can remain satisfied as long as it exists.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew of sync placements. I think being able to live off your creations is a blessing and being able to be the soundtrack to the world around is even more of a blessing. I love movies, video games, and sports so I imagine being able to produce sounds that are important parts to make these systems move.
