We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jakov Naumoski. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jakov below.
Alright, Jakov thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The albums l’ve made with my band Lincoln Letter are definite highlights of my artistic life so far. They were true passion projects and a full circle blend of everything that excites me both in music and in film. I love writing songs and given how concept-based those albums were, it was a wonderful way of stretching my songwriting muscles as far as I can. My bandmates became brothers that I could rely on both musically and personally, and the entire experience was magical and a real healing process. The full circle nature of it was only amplified by the cinematic music videos we got to make as if they were real films.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I had a feeling I should pursue writing music for film since I was quite young. I’ve played and created music for the majority of my life, and I’ve deeply loved film for equally as long, so it seemed like a no-brainer. Most of the music projects I’ve been involved with as a writer, performer and producer have had a cinematic nature to the music, because I love going in highly visual directions, with an emphasis on the storytelling. Whether I’m writing music for a film, a game, or one of my bands, the aim is to tell a story that can take you on a real journey. Having this in mind whenever I set out to write always makes it a genuinely fulfilling process.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being an artist has provided an invaluable way of expressing myself. Channeling my problems and hardships into something good has helped me deal with quite a bit. Music has been there for me at times where nothing else could help, and the fact that I get to call it my profession feels like a blessing.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Moving to the US was a huge pivot in my life and it brought changes I was not prepared for, but am ultimately grateful for. I moved in January of 2020, and it was my first time away from home. As I felt my life change, shortly after the whole world changed when the pandemic hit. It wasn’t an easy time, but it taught me a lot. Moving has become something I have accepted as a natural part of my life. I am still getting used to how far away my home country is, but being here has made that distance feel smaller in many ways.
