Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jakke Erixson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jakke, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I think I have known my whole life that music would play a huge part. I have never had a plan B or gotten an education or another job (recklessly enough) haha, but yeah.. It was always my goal to pursue music in some form as my full time occupation.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Jakke Erixson and I’m a songwriter / producer. It started back in Sweden, in a little town called Grenna. Most known for their peppermint sticks!
Me and my best friend built a small home studio in my parents basement where we would record / produce other students from our school. this was early 2000s so home studio was a fairly new concept and we got a lot of attention by doing it and we also learned a lot from it. How to get a drum kit to sound good (we never got it to sound good) haha! Recording guitars, How a console works, pre amps, Microphones, how to record on a computer etc..
Fast forward 5 years I was in Stockholm and had gotten in to an exclusive Rock musician school that only enlisted 4 musicians per instrument and my title was Multi-musician. 1 year later I had met my band members and we had gotten signed to EMI (Warner) and we started touring, released our first album and toured all over Europe. At the same time I was also writing and producing for other artists in Sweden (Idol, The voice etc) but also pitching for international artists. Me and my partner at the time Oscar Holter (Blinding lights – The Weeknd, and much more) was hanging around Shellback and Max Martin who are two of the worlds most successful Music Producers of all time. We got an opportunity to pitch a song for Christina Aguilera with them and she recorded and released it! That was my first international release and we started to set our eyes on America and Billboard, I signed to super producer RedOne (Lady Gaga, Nicky Minaj, Enrique Iglesias, Usher and many more) and worked along side him as a writer and producer for 5-6 years, mainly out of Los Angeles but we also did work in Paris, London, New York, Miami, Morocco and all over the world. During that time I wrote an idea that would later be called “Kings and Queens w Ava Max” that later went on to become a Billboard #1 and is close to 1 Billion streams on Spotify, I shortly after my deal with RedOne ended wrote and produced “Fingers Crossed w Lauren Spencer Smith” that went Viral on TikTok, went top #10 on Billboard and is now a certified Platinum single, a song that started completely independent! Both on the publishing and master side which is vary rare and a big accomplishment that we are very proud of.
My strength as a writer and producer is probably my sense of melody and my understanding of sonics that will resonate globally. I can sometimes come in to solve a problem with a hook in a song or improve a melody, but also I love starting from scratch in the studio withe the artist or my co writers. I have a strong vision and can often inspire a room to be and do the best we can.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
To see a crowd sing a long to a song you made, to see them scream it, dance to it, cry to it all over the world is a blessing that I’ll never get tired of. I made something and now the world has made it their own, Its the most beautiful feeling.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
My mantra has always been “Keep going”. Even when you’ve had 500 no’s in a week, you have to keep going. I have wanted to quit so many times but in my head I keep hearing it. Keep. Going. It’s worth it, the only things standing between you and your talent and success is persistence.
