Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jakkar Thompson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jakkar, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Time and perseverance. I know there be some days that I want to give up and say f*ck it all, but I can’t and I won’t. Because I know that I’m built for this. There be days when I think my audition was the very best and I still don’t get the role I thought I was going to receive. I just take it with a grain of salt and continue to be hungry for the next role I’m trying to get. For every role I don’t audition for, someone else will take my place. I’m not going to allow that. Every closed door I knock on is bound to loosen and open sooner or later. Knowing what I know now, I would have conducted myself more efficiently like I’m doing now. I was young and just thought smiling was enough. Nowhere near the truth. Method acting is a wonderful thing. Had I learned earlier, I would’ve been more seasoned as an actor, but such is life. I’m thankful for what I know now most definitely. Improv and cold reads are essential. I’ll say it again, improv and cold reads are essential. If you can create yourself on camera at whim, and create a character from nothing through simply reading a piece of paper, then the creativity is endless. The only obstacle I ever faced from learning more, was my ownself and will only be myself. If I face an obstacle, it’s because I allowed it to become as such. So I have to always overcome and do better.

Jakkar, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those who would like to know a tad bit more about myself, my name is Jakkar Thompson. I’m an Army Veteran (Infantryman), Actor, Professional Gamer and Amateur Strongman. With the main topic being acting, I got into this wonderful business called Show in August of 2020. Both me and my brother randomly decided to become actors one afternoon. Never looked back since. I provide a character for role for anything. Film, tv, commercial and whatever else is needed. Through my emotions and feelings, I create a character people will love or hate. That is a beautiful thing. I’m not really a proud person, but what did make me happy is getting my first agent and agency. I’m with Aligned Stars Agency under the owner, Barbara Divasek. She gave me a chance when nobody else would and for that I’m forever grateful. I believe I set myself out from others because I’m the hardest worker not only in the room, but the whole damn building. That is a fact. When you sign Jakkar Thompson for a role, believe you will get your money’s worth, plus interest.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I accept that many roles that I try for, especially when I’m trying to gain SAG-AFTRA eligibility, will be passed on. Not all roles, but alot. Yet I keep pushing. I have to. Cause I’m an actor thay constantly has to adapt. I didn’t get the role? That’s ok, keep looking for a role! I did get the role I hoped for? Amazing, now let the production team know why I was a good choice! Complacency kills. I refuse to stay comfortable. I always gotta change and change and yet stay the same. Resiliency is a must because as soon as you show cracks, you either fix yourself, or accept failure.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
What drives me is my family. I love my family dearly. To see them happy makes me happy. To see them safe and secure with no worries makes me happy as well. My goal is to make sure that they have no worries, and if they do, do my best to help. That’s why I love acting. The support system is wonderful. As a mission, I must make sure that I can do whatever I can for those in my household. Acting helps by assisting me into something I love and that’s creativity. The more creative I am, the more secure my family is.
