We recently connected with Jakeyla Carlton and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jakeyla, thanks for joining us today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
What do I hope my Legacy will be? When I think about a Legacies, foundations, and who I am it does not start with me. Our legacy started many generations before us, some people have good legacies already set up and prepared and some have to build in order to correct their legacy from the past where their ancestors may have made it a little harder for the to create a concrete foundation. In my opinion I think my legacy has a great beginning and strong foundation. I hope to add bigger success, I hope to continue to build on the traditions, morals and values my Great Grandmother started and when I leave this earth I hope to be somebody that’s remembered and can be looked up in a history book, not only talked about amongst my family members when they remember that it’s my birthday or how it use to be on holidays with me. Leaving a legacy is leaving a mark not only on your family but on the world. That’s why I make sure everything I do, speak, or surround myself with is positioning myself to be an influential person to my family and the world.
Jakeyla, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
The Key, is a multifunctional business where we focus to help our clients business grow. We help with marketing, managing, and sometimes we may get our hands dirty with labor. The Key is not a business personally for myself to get rich quick but for the people. We come in and help other businesses become successful and we get our fruits of our labors, sometimes it may be more than we deserved and sometimes we may be taken advantage of and receive less. Every thing we do comes from the heart so we don’t get discouraged when things don’t go our way. The foundation of my business is Proverbs 11:25, “ A generous person will prosper those who help others will be refreshed” I stand on that verse because it has help me grow tremendously not only in networking, and growing in the industry but also in real life. We often forget, life isn’t about making money, but fulfilling our purpose while we are here; you can not take money but you can bring your good deeds and morals with you when your time is up here. The Key may be small now but I think if I continue move and think the way I do; it will be bigger than I ever imagined, and I’m thankful for articles like this the Canvas, that allow us to talk about ourselves now, and once we are well known or more successful we can see how far we have come.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
In my opinion when managing a team, and maintaining high morale, you must remember your employees, are people too. I’ve seen so many people put their companies/businesses first. If you want a high quality functioning business with people who do not just look at your business as a job, you have to treat your employees like people, you have to hear their concerns, you have to take the extra steps to make sure they are not only ok on the job but outside, basically you have to care for your employees like family, I’m not saying let them take advantage but you shouldn’t take advantage of someone as an employer because you know they’re working for you because they need the money. People work for people that’s just paying them, but a person will care for your business and the foundation it’s built on if you care for them.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A business is never one person, but a team. You can say “My Business “ all day but you will truthfully never be at your best without your team. You have to make sure the team is together before you continue to try to build the business. I learned this from one of my friends that is very successful in what they do; but not successful in keeping their employees. This friend would state “My Business “ all the time but the team that’s helping the business was the ones running it, and making sure it was functioning properly not that friend.
