We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jakeena Geobani . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jakeena below.
Hi Jakeena , thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Having a career and stability in life is something that has been preached to me since I was a young child. Getting a job, doing well in said job, making your mark and living a good life were the golden rules to be significant in this world. So, I did just that and held a job since the age of 12 years old. When I was 24, I landed an amazing position with a telecommunication company and worked there for almost two decades holding several roles, was able to travel throughout the United States and abroad. I was meeting awesome people and facilitating outstanding content that helped people grow. Unfortunately, the pandemic hit, and my role changed drastically. I was stuck in the virtual vortex of life. I started feeling burnt out and stagnant, making me start questioning what my next steps in life would be. I was no longer feeling passion or a sense of fulfillment in my life. I wanted to quit but feared the “what ifs” if I no longer had my six-figure income. But as each day passed, I became sadder and sadder and knew that a change needed to happen ASAP.
Then one day I logged in to work and received an email where the company announced that they were doing a reorg and laying off 5,000 employees. I was nervous about how this would impact me and what would be my fate. After praying and consulting with my wife I made the decision to volunteer to take the severance package and leave corporate America. I am now taking a risk on myself and my business, to be the author of my fate and live a life of freedom. I am super excited and proud of this decision; I am manifesting for myself all the good life has to offer. I know the sky’s unlimited with the things that I will be able to accomplish and the positive impact I will make on people’s lives.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a Certified Life Coach, Facilitator, Motivational Empowerment Speaker, and Founder and CEO of Keena Konnects LLC! My passion is providing a listening ear and liberating advice to those in need of clarity and guidance. This passion started as a child; I have always wanted to help those that didn’t have a strong support system readily available. I grew up feeling lost and uncertain of my worth and there were not many people around that I could trust to share how I was feeling. This led to some bad decisions and my life got off track, it took years to course correct, but I made it. Having this experience led me to open Keena Konnects, because I never want anyone to be in a space where they feel that no one cares or that their voice doesn’t matter.
I have been a coach to many people over the course of my 20 years working in corporate America. From business to personal, Keena Konnects is about helping people in society have a safe space to be exactly who they are meant to be, a place where all are welcome to reconnect with their true selves uncovering talents and live a life of purpose.
I provide individuals with tools, resources, and a listening ear to plan out their best life. Some of my clients have experienced low self-confidence and struggle with self-limiting belief systems. I want them to heal and feel empowered about what the future will hold for them, this is done in group and individual sessions. I also host community workshops, yoga, listening circles and other things that bring people together to have a sense of community. I am truly for the people and desire that everyone lives life on purpose based on their definition of success. What I want readers to know is you matter most and do not be afraid to seek help when needed. Mental well-being is very important, and Keena Konnects was established to support you on your journey to self-discovery and awareness to be the best you possible.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One big life lesson that I had to unlearn was self-comparison. During my life experiences I have found myself constantly comparing myself to others. Growing up if friends had the latest fashion trends, then I needed that too. If they played sports or were a part of the “it” crowd I wanted to join too. I struggled with maintaining high self-confidence. I figured if I was just like everyone else then I would fit in and be liked. Now I understand that comparing my value based on what others were doing or accomplishing was killing my dreams and individuality. This was no way to live, and I decided to define my joy and happiness based on my needs, wants and belief system. I decided what my future would be with no one else’s input.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My intuitive ability to connect on a human level is what makes me stand out as an amazing coach and accountability partner. I genuinely care about other people’s well-being and support them where they are. I do not require others to change because it’s what I want, I encourage and empower them to make the next right decision that will change their life for the good.
