Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jake Robbins. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jake , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
I think about this a lot actually. For years and years I let the fear of failure cloud my true capabilities. I was in a really bad place for a long time mentally, and I always wish I would have started my journey sooner because in all reality, I wanted too, but I had been a lost soul for years. When I think about this now, I’ve come to realize that everything truly happens for a reason. All the stuff I put my self through, needed to happen otherwise I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I now know, I am right where I need to be.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jake Robbins and I am the Owner / Co-Founder of High Caliber Records, an electronic music Record Label out of Minneapolis MN, CEO and Founder of Built Different Music Group which is an all in one artist agency, and I am the Chief Operations Officer of Recall Records/Network.
I’ve been in the electronic music scene coming up on 15ish years, starting my way as a fan and after falling in love with the EDM scene, becoming a “local dj”. We started the record label during covid, simply as an outlet to release our own music/friends music and it since then has turned into a very well respected entity.
A few years later I started managing my best friend Josh Johnson as an artist (Artist known as “Thred”) and realized that I wanted to make a career out of this, so I started BDMG and started taking on more artists, consulting, and doing music promotion for the general public.
I help clients with over all skills to elevate their brand. I think something that sets me apart from others is I have built my brands from the ground up with little to no money, so coming to me you’re getting someone that has pretty much experienced any obstacle/problem you could doing such. I also offer music promotion for Spotify/Soundcloud/Youtube to help you reach more potential fans with your music. I also offer social media advertising. Another thing that sets me apart from others is I’ve been in this scene for over a decade, while I wasn’t doing it professionally for that long, I have retained a lot of information/knowledge in my time here that can be beneficial to someone.
My discipline comes naturally. I still work a day job currently that requires a lot of hours so I have pretty much cut out everything in my life that gets in the way of “the grind” because this is what is important to me, and in order to make a successful career in music you have to put in a lot of work to get to that point. Something that elevated my discipline overall was reading “Can’t Hurt Me” By David Groggins. That book changed my out look on a lot of things in life.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I met my business partner for Recall Records over the internet. He messaged me when I started to kind of “pop off” on social media (My face was probably all over his feed quite literally lol) and said “Dude how have we never talked?”. Wesley has been doing this professionally over a decade and is one of the most knowledgeable people I know. I think of him as a Wizard when it comes to music, and for him to take me under his wing like this is something I would never take for granted.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Best source of new clients for me has been via Facebook, as my reach on their to artists/brands is the best.
