Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jake Reny. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Jake, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Honestly, I think it was when I started going to see my favorite bands after COVID once venues had opened back up. Being an independent artist and seeing some of my favorite musicians preform with such a high level of energy I had never seen years prior, really lit a fire under me to start taking my music in a more professional approach. I was at shows singing along and thinking “I can do this”. So in late 2020, I buckled down and really started to write and record with my then producer in ways we never had before. Intentionally figuring out who I was as an artist through the entirety of the recording process, and being so vulnerable and humble to learn from myself. After releasing some songs in 2021-2022, I got connected with the guys over at a Staycation Records in early 2023. 8 months later and my journey of professionally doing music is starting to shape. My first debuting single release with them titled “Got Away” dropped November 10th, and my second debut single called “Fold” will be releasing on Friday November 24th on all streaming platforms.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For those that may not know who I am, my name is Jake Reny and I am an independent indie-pop artist signed to Staycation Records. I write and reflect on life’s challenges/experiences and use music as an outlet in hopes of providing listeners a comfort knowing that we don’t need to do life alone on this planet. I’m pretty freakin proud of myself for being honest in what I write and record. I don’t B.S. around and make up some story about a random couple breaking up or falling in love. I write about the hardest struggles I have faced/see others face in the day to day. As well as the raddest moments and beautiful memories that occur. I have a huge passion of seeing people understand redemption is possible and life is worth celebrating!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect to being an artist in my opinion is seeing the outcome of your final works/projects. For me it’s taking an experience wether beautiful or devastating and putting it to paper, then to instruments, then to mixing and mastering… man is that a crazy real feeling. It’s so rewarding writing down an experience and seeing it come to life in the studio. It gets me so excited getting the music out into the listener’s hands in hopes they can resonant and feel something similar or maybe completely different. It’s just such a fulfilling experience as a creative.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Yeah totally. I fully believe that we all go through similar failures, challenges, and successes in life. I use music as an outlet not only for myself, but to provide listeners comfort in knowing that people don’t have to go through the hardest and coolest parts of life alone. I really have a mission of connecting with the listeners and hoping they resonate with the honesty I sing about through these songs. I’ve gotten out of the darkest places of my life, and I want to let people know that it’s possible for them too. I celebrate my life and who I’ve become today. I want to celebrate with people who have and need it too!
