We recently connected with Jake Perusich and have shared our conversation below.
Jake, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I started my journey into creative projects towards the end of college when I was investigating video and creative work and how that interacts with marketing. Marketing is often too left-brained and forgets the reality that interesting and engaging creative creates more connection with customers than any methodically detailed spreadsheet can ever do. So I started investigating photography, videography, and audio content as a differentiator of my skills. Obviously, there are plenty of amazing creatives in the United States, but very few have the numbers and marketing-trained brain that I have which has helped me to be quite successful in my currently early marketing career.
Jake, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Sure thing! My name is Jake Perusich, I’m originally from and grew up in Butte, Montana, but I now live in Jackson, Minnesota where I moved to be with my amazing fiance. I always grew up taking pictures, but I truly started studying photography as I was going to the University of Montana Tech for marketing. I’ve fallen deeply in love with the photography craft over the years, and I’ve started producing more video content as I’ve continued my artistic journey as well.
My disciplines in photography, videography, marketing, and graphic design have led me to my current multidisciplined in-house marketing role at a growing southwest Minnesota manufacturer. I’m also growing my marketing freelance work as my hope turns towards growing that into a thriving business someday.
My creative work is currently split towards editorial portraiture, street photography, and landscape photography. I feel thankful every day for the amazing creatives in Minnesota who are teaching me more and more about the craft while making long-lasting relationships in the 2 years I’ve been in Minnesota. I lean towards my work being as moody and emotional as possible. I want those viewing my art to feel as if they’re both seeing something they’ve seen before while recognizing the novelty of the scene in front of them.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I strive to romanticize the Midwest. We’re in a part of the country that is all too frequently overlooked or viewed as a monolith of mundanity. I’m looking to show the weird beauty found in the sprawling cornfields and quiet streets found all throughout the middle of the country along with the amazing creativity and beauty of the people found within them.
Any fun sales or marketing stories?
Sure! So I work in marketing the trucking industry. This is obviously hardly a glamorous industry to most of the population, but through data, intuition, and creativity, we’ve found a way to not only carve out our brand’s growing niche in the market. We’ve done this through the hard work of my sales and management team as well as my creative vision for how this brand can truly look. I’ve created every aspect of my company’s brand and visual presence, and this resurgence in advertising efforts has led us to our current point where we can’t keep inventory on the lot. It’s truly a great feeling to know my marketing efforts have helped to play a part in our resounding success. I’m currently in the works of spreading this success story through my freelance work to help make southwest Minnesota businesses even more successful.
