We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jake Huffman. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jake below.
Jake, appreciate you joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
Autism on Fire was started in 2021 as a project to help improve the relationship between firefighters and individuals with Autism. I started Autism on Fire by focusing on experiences from my time on the fire department as an honorary firefighter of interactions with individuals with Autism.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
**Autism On Fire** is a vibrant social media brand created by Jake Huffman, an Honorary firefighter with a deep commitment to autism awareness. Launched in 2021, Autism On Fire uses platforms like TikTok, YouTube, and others to share Jake’s unique perspective on autism, drawing from his personal experiences and challenges. Since becoming an honorary firefighter in 2016, Jake has faced significant personal loss, including the deaths of his paternal grandmother in 2014, his mother in 2016, and his maternal grandmother in 2017. Despite these trials, he has channeled his resilience and passion into creating content that educates and inspires. With over 6,000 followers, more than 75,000 video likes, and over 3 million views on TikTok alone, Jake’s voice continues to make a powerful impact in the autism community.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
One particular goal driving my creative journey is that I want to reach 1,000 Subscribers on the Autism On Fire YouTube channel. With the imminent ban of TikTok in the United States, it is crucial to have my 6,000 TikTok followers to subscribe to me on YouTube, where I will be producing better quality and longer length videos
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Autism On Fire was founded in the middle of the COVID Pandemic, where I was forced to remain at home. It was during this time that I grabbed my iPhone X, a tripod, and a desk lamp, and recorded my first TikTok video. But it wasn’t all positive. I was the subject of cyber bullying, where internet trolls made fun of me for a multitude of reasons, ranging from having a speech impediment to having autism. But I pressed on, and now if I am bullied, I just block it out and ignore the haters.
