We were lucky to catch up with Jake Gomes recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jake, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today If you could go back in time do you wish you had started sooner or later?

I do not, many if the experienced I had before I went live with my own firm were learning opportunities that have allowed me to bypass many of the mistakes my counterparts have made.

I knew I wanted to be in business since I was 23, but was fully aware I didn’t have the necessary skills. That’s when I got the opportunity to be a bar manager at my job. I knew I’d promote to General Manager before long and would have the opportunity to learn how to run a business before I began my own.

After 6 years, I felt ready.

I got my real estate license and began selling real estate full time, selling over $30M in real estate in 3 years.

From there, I had the tenure to become my own broker. In April of 2024 I launched Gomes Homes, my property management firm, and as of December 2024, my sales team, The Gomes Agency, has become a fully independent firm, aiming to sell $100M in 2025.

All of my leadership growth in the bar business, coupled with selling real estate at a high level, has set my 2 firms up for what I can only imagine will be incredible success for years to come.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I got into real estate because my parents were investors throughout my teenage years. This inspired me to begin investing in real estate in my mid 20s. Selling real estate full time was a natural next step in my journey as an entrepreneur.

We offer full service real estate sales as The Gomes Agency, full service property management services as Gomes Homes, and have even begun to raise capital for real estate development projects here in Nashville, TN.

The best thing about our 2 firms is that we have every aspect of real estate covered; but another key element to our businesses are that since we have investment background first and foremost, we can treat your property as if it were own own property that we were buying, selling, or investing.

Our firms are professional, conscientious, and genuine, and that bleeds through everything we do.

We are most proud of the growth of our team this past year. The agents that help our clients with every aspect of their real estate need have met the challenges of a shifting market to a premium level and have been otherwise tumultuous waters much more bearable than they otherwise would have been for our clients.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

When I wanted to take our business to the next level, aiming to double our sales and by providing leads to our team, I did not have the capital to invest the thousands of dollars it takes to acquire high quality leads.

I maxed out my credit cards purchasing these leads.

It was scary. but I knew for a fact that we could convert these leads, and that these leads would turn into repeat clients, and we would manage their properties, therefore gaining marketshare for years to come.

Within 1 year we doubled our sales volume and all debt was successfully paid off!

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

One of our core values is integrity. We never want a client to purchase a home that isn’t in their best interest, we never want an investor to acquire a property that is going to lose them money, and we never want a seller to sell in a scenario where they don’t have the high ground unless they absolutely, totally need to sell.

One of our strengths, and one of the ways we build trust in our clients and in our market is by shooting it straight.

If we think a home, a deal, or an offer is bad. We will tell our client.

Our clients negative long term satisfaction is not worth one deal.

A paycheck is not worth the karma of knowing we didn’t do what our job first and foremost is: to help people.
