We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jake Deptula. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jake Deptula below.
Jake, appreciate you joining us today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
One of the biggest risks I’ve taken has been betting on myself. After gaining experience with a diverse range of employers and companies in the entertainment industry, I realized that if others were willing to take a chance on me, I should be willing to take a chance on myself and build my own business. I’ve been fortunate to find success along the way.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Originally from the Midwest, I moved to Los Angeles shortly after graduating from Webster University with a B.A. in Media Communications, fueled by my passion for a career in entertainment. Drawn by the magic of movies and television and the prospect of escaping cold winters, LA quickly became my dream destination.
After sending out about 100 resumes over a month, I secured an entry-level position in television post-production. This role helped me build a network of contacts, leading to a greater number of opportunities.
I’ve fully embraced every experience, lesson, and connection in LA, developing a solid career in television, film production, and podcasting.
I’ve been fortunate to collaborate with some incredibly talented individuals across film, television, and commercials, working with esteemed brands and networks such as Hulu, Amazon, Nike, ABC, Procter & Gamble, NFL, Toyota, A+E, Bravo, Lifetime, and NBC.
One of my strengths as a producer, podcaster, and creative consultant is helping others craft and share their own stories.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Over the past four years, I have immersed myself in the true crime genre. As the co-host, creator, and producer of the podcast Strictly Stalking, I have conducted over 200 interviews with stalking survivors from around the world. With the series nearing 20 million downloads globally, I take great pride in its profound impact on both survivors and listeners.
I specialize in researching and uncovering new stalking cases, then connecting directly with survivors to help them prepare to share their stories with the world. My commitment is to foster a safe and supportive environment where guests can reveal details about the crimes committed against them—often for the first time.
I have recently launched a new podcast series titled lovelustfear, which delves into the darker aspects of dating and relationships. This series is being adapted for TV.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I am a compassionate ally for victims and survivors, eager to explore opportunities to amplify stories of survival and hope.
