Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jake Cyprian. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jake, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
The Region released a new EP called ‘A New Point of View’ on June, 2nd 2023. It is our most versatile collection of songs to date. We experimented with a variety of new sounds, including our first song featuring bassist, Phil Cyprian, on lead vocals.
Jake, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Formed in 2012, The Region is a hard-hitting pop punk/emo trio from Northwest Indiana. Our music is dynamic and heartfelt, blending heavy and melodic elements with nostalgic overtones. Consisting of brothers Jake Cyprian on lead vocals/guitar, Phil Cyprian on bass/vocals, and drummer Jon De St. Jean, we deliver a passionate and energetic live performance that leaves a memorable impact. Our music has been published in Alternative Press, featured on ‘The Scene’ & ‘All New Punk’ Spotify editorial playlists, and aired on Chicago’s 101 WKQX radio station. We have also collaborated with artists such as Cory Castro of Free Throw, Violeteyez, and Cole Rodriguez.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
On March 7th, 2020, right before the COVID-19 lockdown, we played our first sold out show in Chicago. After that, nobody knew when concerts were going to come back or if they would ever be the same again. The Region seemed to lose a lot of the momentum that we were gaining prior to the lockdown. We continued to write, record, and release music throughout this period, but remained uncertain about returning to live performances. Over 3 years later, on June 10th, 2023, we played our first show since the before the lockdown in 2020. It was our most successful show to date, and really reminded us why we make music in the first place. All the hard work behind the scenes paid off, and it felt like we were picking up right where we left off.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
The best thing people can do to support musicians in particular is share songs they like with their peers. Word-of-mouth is still the best way for our music to reach new people. How likely are you going to check out an artist your friends recommend versus an ad on social media? This is why it’s so important to share the music you enjoy. You never know if someone might find their new favorite artist.
