Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jake Barrena. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jake, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been one of the most interesting investments you’ve made – and did you win or lose? (Note, these responses are only intended as entertainment and shouldn’t be construed as investment advice)
Currently, I am a published author, keynote speaker, peak performance coach, and owner of multiple companies who is a man on a mission passionate about living my “best life” and helping others do the same.
The best investment I have ever made and continue to make is in my personal self development. Along with spreading positive energy of encouragement, love and wisdom onto those around me.
As an entrepreneur for the last two decades, I has started over twelve businesses, learning from both successes and failures. I currently own a successful real estate company, and self development company in Orange County, California.
I love staying in top physical shape and have become skilled in many extreme sports; skateboarding, snowboarding, and mixed martial arts. Spending time with my wife of nearly 16 years and two kids are among my top priorities.
Most importantly, I am a man of devout faith, who lives my values. I love to create and build ways to impact people for good.
I firmly believe to live a “best life” one must master authenticity, which is God’s original design.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Well, this is a loaded question, but I will try to answer as shortly as possible.
I have lived two lives. My first life was June 1, 1983 to July 15, 2001. It was the first 18 years of my life. In this first life, I was lost with no sense of guidance or direction. On the surface, it seem like I had it all together. I was popular, extremely athletic and always had a positive attitude, but, that could not be furthest from the truth. I had a broken family, my dad was an alcoholic, and I did not feel content.
It wasn’t until July 15, 2001. My life changed forever. I decided to stop living selfishly and playing the victim. I decided enough is enough and I made a 180 course correction. If it was not for my decision that day to make the most out of my life, I wouldn’t be where I’m at now.
At this point in my life, I am extremely blessed. I’ve been with my beautiful bride for nearly 2 decades, have two amazing children, love my career as an entrepreneur, and maintain a huge passion for life.
The story goes deeper on this one, but that’s what I can share for now.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Impacting lives in a positive way. It is extremely rewarding to see someone who is stuck in there negative ways or has a negative narrative playing on loop in their mind, then to have an encounter with my work and be influenced to change. It’s my ambition to change the world, and that happens one person at a time. Slow and steady wins the race for positive change.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Being that I’ve started over 12 companies I have experience in changing my original business plans. As an entrepreneur, I remain flexible with whatever endeavor I get involved. It’s through navigating those fine waters that I have found success. I’ve now shifted into four separate industries less than 20 years; nonprofit, Health and fitness, real estate, and self-development. It’s been a journey to say the least.
