We were lucky to catch up with Jakayla Jones recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jakayla , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
I came up with “Kay Monaè Beauty Bar” because I knew that I wanted at least one of my businesses to be named after me. I took “Kay” from my nickname “Kayla” and Monaè is my middle name. In the future, I will be the owner of a spa offering a plethora of beauty services so that’s where “beauty bar” stemmed from. Kay Monaè has a nice ring to it so I stuck with it!
Jakayla , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’m a 21 year old boss babe born and raised in North Charleston, South Carolina. Since I was a little girl, I’ve always had a passion for beauty. I originally wanted to become a makeup artist, but I later grew a love for skincare. I own a cosmetics line (The Perfect Kollexion) so I still get to express my love for makeup through that- my first baby! I started beauty school in April of 2021 and instantly fell in love with skin after I took my very first facial client. I knew that once I graduated I wanted to be a solo esthetician. With the drive, passion, and creativity that I have, it just wouldn’t make sense for me to not be my own boss. I am now a licensed esthetician specializing in corrective skincare and hair removal (waxing). Transforming skin and building relationships with my clients is my favorite part about my career. I’ve named myself “The Facial Fairy” because of my ability to change lives through my skincare services. I am most proud of myself for coming out of my shell and being more interactive and social. Everyone who knows me personally knows that I’ve always been a shy person. My clients have helped me overcome that. The main thing that I would love for potential clients and followers to know about me and my brands is that my number one goal is to boost confidence and help others regain or find their glow, whether it be in their skin or self esteem. Kay Monaè Beauty Bar offers wide range of self care services while The Perfect Kollexion provides the girls with “Beauty With An Attitude” . I believe that women are to be seen and heard. At TPK we let our beauty do the talking. I love everything about self care and beauty enhancing so I created two brands that are all about it, but in different ways. If the phrase “beauty lover” had a picture next to it, it would most definitely be me! I encourage everyone, especially women to find their passion and stick to it.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe that my creativity and originality is what helped me build my reputation within my market. Aside from my profession as an esthetician, I also create graphics for other business owners. I used my talent from that and applied it to my own business. My flyers and advertisements are always eye catching and never boring. That along with my client’s reviews is what brings in most of my new clients. I’m always told that others can see how passionate I am about what I do and that has also built my reputation.

I keep in touch with my clients through social media and my text message / email newsletters. I post frequently on Facebook and Instagram to keep my clients in the loop about everything current and new to Kay Monaè Beauty Bar. My clients know that the experience I provide is 1 of 1 and that’s what keeps them loyal.
