We recently connected with Jakayla Fenderson and have shared our conversation below.
Jakayla, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
In my journey to establish my spa I faced pivotal moment where I had to decide whether to to pursue my passion or stick with the security of a bed side nursing job. Despite the uncertainty, nerves, hurdles and hoops I took the leap of faith. Not totally leaving bed side but using it to fund and and launch my business. It is not easy to run a business while continuing to work full time but I know in due time I will be able to totally step away and work 100% in my business. I still have moments of doubt, uncertainty, and pure exhaustion but my unwavering passion for beauty and aesthetics far outweighs everything.
I am focused on the goal, my hard work is paying off as my aesthetics business is gaining momentum. Today I am proud to say that my business not only fulfils my passion for aesthetics but also brings joy and confidence to my clients. Taking the risk is one of the best decisions I have ever made, daily I am so grateful for this opportunity to do what I love.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a Registered Nurse with a decade of health care experience, I have a strong background working in numerous health care settings such as urology, rehab, geriatrics, and progressive care. Along with my nursing degree I have continued my education earning credentials in manual lymphatic drainage, botox/filler and mesotherapy.
Driven by a desire to make a positive impact on peoples lives making them feel beautiful inside and out. I knew aesthetics was the best option for me. The fact that I could continue to work in my RN scope of practice yet make other more confident daily is why I am so passionate.
People have a lot of insecurities at The Post-Op Spot we turn those insecurities into self confidence. With our lipo dissolve, weight loss program and post-op care services.
I want potential clients to know that we care deeply for you. We take a personalised approach starting with a phone or in person consultation we are able to tailor our services to you. overall, my business is a reflection of me and my passion, expertise, and dedication to help others look and feel their absolute best. This is a transformative experience.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back I would absolutely choose the same profession over and over and over again! I love nursing, there are so many facets and avenues to go town. If I didn’t choose the hospital or aesthetics I could have chosen a nurse attorney or forensic nursing. The options are endless!

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
As a nurse communication skills is very helpful for succeeding. Effective communication is crucial. When it comes to client consultations, explaining different treatments, and managing expectations. Possessing these skills will help to build trust and rapport. Addressing their concerns and ensuring they fell comfortable through out makes for a wonderful experience.
