We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jair & Brandon Martinez-Johnson & Jackson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jair & Brandon below.
Jair & Brandon, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
Me and Brandon started off as Artist, transferring creative ideas to canvas and then promoting the artworks to sell. We were both self taught. I genuinely believe that everything happens for a reason, so the time it took was what was needed to fully render this idea into a business. The most stressful skills that we had to learn was how to go outside of our comfort zone and learn how to approach anyone and everyone for the sake of the growth and development.
Jair & Brandon, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Me & Brandon met 4 years ago at a local smoke shop where we quickly became friends due to our love for art. We would go on to be parts of art shows in the W hotel in Atlanta and other venues throughout the city. After COVID hit and me moving back home from Decatur, we decided to recreate the energy we had captivated people with our art by transferring it into music. I then decided to start DJing in April, which led us to starting The Private Property Group in June. The Private Property Group is a DJ media and event company based in Atlanta that specializes in the growth and promotion of DJs. The reason we decided to start PP is because we realized that a lot of creative and very talented DJs struggled to get theirselves out there to the masses, something that we learned to do when selling our artworks. The biggest thing that sets us apart from others is that we approach each DJ we record sets for as friends and not as a client. We are adamant on helping people grow their artistry in a selfless matter, we do this for them to grow, and not for the monetary value. The proudest moment we’ve had as a business was actually this past weekend Oct 7, we threw our first ever event for my birthday and we had over 50+ people show up and enjoy the local DJs we had curated for the night and create lifelong memories.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
For me personally, I know I struggled with my appearance and relationships, how I felt as a person, as a brother, son, and as a friend. The thing that helped me get past this was realizing that I had to fix the things internally to truly flourish to become the person I’ve always wanted to be, something I work on to this day.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
There is nothing better to know and see that the people you were able to impact become the best versions of theirselves. This either being by motivation, inspiration, or just assisting in helping them get to the next level.
