We caught up with the brilliant and insightful JaiPiere Morrison a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, JaiPiere thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?

Ever since I was a child, I always loved to perform and create! I sang in the choir, a lot of academic teams, played basketball, make music and funny videos. When I grew older and moved to Chicago. I started working at Pizza Hut and the GM was a trans male. He asked me what’s your pronouns and I said I don’t know because I’ve always wanted to transition. So he referred me to Broadway Youth Center and I started testosterone April 27th, 2019. I’ll never forget the day I was so happy. I started with gel then I switched to patches and finally I just do shots now. I went through a lot of depression and had a lot of weight gain so I was very insecure. I was also homeless so a lot of times I was off T or my process for everything was taking longer. I finally came back to Chicago and got a top surgery date. When I got top surgery my friend Rae was like “JP do tiktok and show you’re progress!” So I did it and I grew my audience more than I even expected! I’m so shy and antisocial I never seen myself making content but look at me now! Now it’s a true passion of mine and to be an advocate for my community. I was so misinformed when I first started T so I make content to give another trans male someone to look to and have somewhat of knowledge of what’s to come in the journey. As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?

My name is JaiPiere Morrison but mostly known as JP. I got into the industry because of 5 people. My little sister Unique who is tiktok obsessed lol, always sent me a bunch of videos when I didn’t even know what the app was. DDG is one of my biggest influences because he just embodies my personality and just how vision for my future to be as a CEO. My friend Lrae has an amazing platform and I an amazing friend to me to encourage me to create. And of course my mom and dad for making me and bringing the creativity out of me seeing their gifts and installing my love for God. I started off just posting to show my top surgery progress but then I kept doing reactions with my durag hanging and glasses so it got associated to me. Then I took it a step up being funny my first video with my little sisters wig then I just kept making videos with it. My brother Mykie starting teaching me to write content ideas and how to post and get traction. Now I’m almost half way to 10k and I plan to keep growing. My ultimate plan is to do YouTube, act, sell my clothing brand and make music. So keep looking out for JP trust me you’ll see me more very soon! Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

I slept in a tent and storage unit, hotel to hotel while I was still making tiktoks and networking with other trans males and tiktokers. I just remembered Jeremiah 29:11 and the goal of where I want to get to and how I felt starting T. I wanted to be a voice to trans males goin through homelessness or instability and just wanting to know about their journey. My personality just makes it different and funny! So never let anything stop your journey and goals it gets better even when you can’t see the light.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

My goal of all this is to have more house communities and services for trans males. I also have a petition for free health care for all transgenders so please support that. I just want more resources available to transgenders and more respect and knowledge about us.
