We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jainessa Wilson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Jainessa below.
Hi Jainessa, thanks for joining us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
As an entrepreneur, I believe vacations are pertinent to function at a higher level. You truly cannot pour from an empty cup. Taking vacations as an entrepreneur can cause a feeling of guilt or a sense of not being present for our business. Entrepreneurship is completely different from working a 9-5, it can feel as though work never shuts off and we’re never granted specific “vacation days”.
Although we sometimes have control over our schedules, it can feel as though we never take days off since we’re consistently trying to grow. As for myself, I take pride in stepping away from time to time to simply relax and recharge. Whether it’s a quick weekend trip or 5 days, I believe that it’s essential to do this at a minimum once every other quarter. I vacation as often as my schedule allows, and I enjoy the quiet time away from the chaos. As a travel enthusiast, I’ve structured my business to ensure it continuously runs when I’m not present and to guarantee that my clients are taken care of in my absence. This is the key!
It’s essential to delegate I’m 100% passionate about my business and truly enjoy what I do, The “burnout” feeling can easily creep up. To cure the times when I’m unmotivated, I simply plan time to vacation and it always puts me back in the zone upon my return. Vacations don’t always have to be somewhere far, staycations can also do the trick. We have to remember that it’s pertinent to take care of our health and mental health and to run ourselves down. Life is to be lived!

Jainessa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Real Estate has been a part of my life since I was 7 years old and I never knew it would become a passion of mine many years later. Assisting my mother in her career as a Realtor/Broker, I learned so much about the industry and the ups and downs it entails. Being the super introvert that I’ve always been, I knew it would never be something I would be interested in doing in my life. In 2019 decided to step away from my previous career of almost 10 years in the banking industry to pursue a part-time career in Real Estate…..not realizing, Real Estate would become my passion and full-time career.
It has been my mission to educate future home buyers on the importance of homeownership while also providing a top-tier customer experience for buyers and sellers. As a Realtor, I truly enjoy the happiness on my client’s faces at the closing table from reaching a goal in their own journey through Real Estate. Every transaction is different, no two days are the same, and this career is truly not for the faint at heart. But it’s a career that’s beyond rewarding. Each year my business continues to grow, my clients are happy with the white glove service I provide and I plan to continuously take my business higher and higher each year.
From building relationships, guiding my clients with one of the biggest transactions of their life, and seeing each transaction to the end from start to finish. I come equipped to provide each client with the professionalism, knowledge, marketing, and negotiation skills needed to ensure the transaction falls in their favor. Real Estate can be very overwhelming and stressful but I’m committed to providing a seamless and stress-free process. Whether you’re a first-time homebuyer, an investor, or looking to sell your home of 40+ years, I’m here to help and look forward to assisting you.
I’m proud to have branded myself as a “Luxury Realtor”. For me, “Luxury” isn’t necessarily a price point or type of home. I define my luxury approach for my clients as a higher level of service, communication, and knowledge. I’m very well-versed in relationship building and I believe that’s what sets me apart from the others. Yes, I’m technically in sales, but I do not run my business as a “sale-sy person” or with a sales approach. I’m more of a matchmaker, a trusted professional, and a guide. My overall mission is to simply help.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Social media and television shows have created the misconception that being a Realtor is an easy career. You simply open doors and receive a large paycheck…this is extremely far from the truth. But can also be shocking to new agents in the industry. My early days as a Realtor were quite difficult and overwhelming. I assumed I would sell millions right out of licensing and business would just pour into my lap. In my first year, I didn’t make “all the money” I assumed I would. Luckily, I prepared myself financially prior to leaving my previous career. By the end of my first year, I simply chalked it up as a year of just learning the business and getting a first-hand experience of how transactions flow, the paperwork, and what not to do. I came across several “clients”‘ who simply wasted didn’t have the best intentions and weren’t serious. I lost so much time, gas, patience, and motivation but it was a learning lesson that I often share with other new agents.
My second year was even more trying, it was the beginning of the pandemic. I received my first big listing and didn’t realize the pandemic would snatch that right out of my hands shortly after listing. My seller became unsure of what the future held being in a pandemic and decided to remove her home from the market. With so many uncertainties, I had to completely pivot my business to sustain the “new normal”. Real Estate hasn’t been the same since the pandemic. I’ve had to navigate and build relationships differently, and strategies have changed. It’s safe to say I found my groove shortly after readjusting.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is simply talking to others.
Sharing what I do, how I can help and not being a “secret agent”. My business is primarily relationship building and it’s important to have the confidence to talk and network with your sphere of influence, friends, and family and share what you do. Because of this, my business has grown tremendously by receiving referrals from friends and family members. I have also effectively grown my clientele based on the great experience I provide to each client. My clients receive excellent, knowledgeable, and consistent service that keeps them pointing me to the next person I can help.
