We recently connected with Jaimie Rosenthal and have shared our conversation below.
Jaimie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The mission behind Moss and Mocha has to do with creating community and teaching/learning about the world around us. Everyone seeks a place to be, place to meet others, and a place to continue learning, no matter where they are in their lives.
Moving across the country, it’s shown that creating groups, making friends, and creating communities is easier said than done! Starting Moss and Mocha has allowed me to take interests of mine and share my knowledge and experiences with those around me, as well as gain the opportunity to learn from others. Creating lasting bonds with those around me is what I strive for, and opening my doors to those with similar interest or those just looking to create lasting memories is what this project is all about.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Moss and Mocha is a blooming community where coffee lovers and plant lovers intertwine. Our business has evolved to cater to our clients needs, with the long term goal of becoming accessible to all in the local community. Varying your event, we cater plants, accessories, and drinks for your magical event, and teaching a bit about how to care for your plant and others in your environment!
Moving out to Utah, we discovered the range of plant life out here and the variety it had to offer! Excited about the change of scenery and change of pace, we wanted to dive in with the knowledge we’ve collected and share with all who were interested! So, combining two of our loves – coffee and plants – we were set to curate a way for all to experience what we love.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
One thing I’ve learned while owning a small business – your clientele are truly your lifeline! What really changed my view from shifting to this from previous careers, is how your relationships with your network shift your angles. Taking on new perspectives, my values shifted towards what I have felt will make my business more successful – creating those lasting relationships and keeping in touch with those who have supported me on this journey! I LOVE the people I get to work with and have been lucky to experience things with people from all over. Being open to trying new things with new people has been a great growth opportunity. If my clients are happy, then word of mouth WORKS!
Being a DIY business – many people learn by DOING. Making your business an experience makes all the difference.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Most people will say social media – and while that works for many, my best source has been being PRESENT! Being present at events, or even just talking to people in person has been the best source of business. It may be more difficult most days, but the pay off is fantastic. If you can talk about your business or ideas with others, never be shy to do so! There’s balance in everything – if it’s the ONLY thing you talk about, it will have the opposite effect of what you want. BUT letting people know it exists – that you and your ideas exist in some sort of form – that will stick with folks!
