We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaime Rose Farreh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Jaime Rose thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think being successful is doing what you love and have other people love what i do. Having the time to go out and take photos, being able to get the equipment to do my work. Being successful is having my Etsy store so i can have the resources to get the equipment i need and be able to get my work seen.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
When I was about 13 years old someone found a book on landscape photography, I started to look through and I fell in love with the photos and that is when I knew what I was supposed to do with my life. I graduated from the New England School of Photography in 2001. In 2008, my husband and I moved to Savannah, Georgia.
My husband lived in Savannah when he was in college he knew the area and started showing me around. I became fascinated with all the history and decided I wanted to showcase this in my work. When I started to photograph Savannah I wanted to put my own spin on it. In 2011, a friend of mine took me out to photograph the beach at night and that is when everything changed for me. I knew night photography was my passion.
In 2012, I submitted an idea to Savannah Art Culture about doing a show of the Savannah squares at night. They loved the idea after they saw the Madison Square photo. That is what started my focus on historic Savannah and not just night photography. In 2015, I opened my own Etsy Store.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Savannah has a burgeoning tourism industry and someone may have walked by something and not noticed, or a local may have seen many times and showing them a new angle or view or teaching them of the history of the piece.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I enjoy the subjects that I’m photographing and I want to share it with as many people as I can. Being able to sell pieces is actually a secondary goal, it helps fund something I love to do and being able to share it helps me to keep doing it.
