Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jailyn Sawyer . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jailyn , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I originally came to hawaii for college in the summer of 2019. I visited a few months prior and decided to take Korean class. Prior to going to UH, I graduated from FIDM in LA with a degree in beauty marketing and product development. During High-school, I obtained my cosmetology license.
My roommate at UH, told me if I did hair in hawaii, I could make a killing & I didn’t believe her.. during the pandemic I had nothing to do & went back to hawaii & started doing hair. I started to notice how expensive product & supply was. I also realized how a lot of mixed local women didn’t know how to care for their hair.
So I told myself, if I can get the product a little cheaper, provide a professional space, and give out information on how to care for their ethnic hair: I would be ok to something.
I’n 2019, named after my grand parents, Yaya & Pop Pops Beauty Paradise was born in Honolulu, Hi.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We sell bonnets, hair gels, edge control, edge brushes, lip glosses, and t shirts. We provide services to the ethnic girlies and give knowledge about their different textures and what styles suite them best. Beauty supply stores are owned by 3% black people and dominated by the black community. We are proud to be circulating the black dollar!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I started my business backwards. I had no real plans, no logo, barley a name, and no brand identity. I didn’t plan on have employees to having 5 and trying to figure it out! I had to sit Back and teach myself all these new things, teach myself how to me a boss. Change my mindset and environment to grow!

Do you have multiple revenue streams – if so, can you talk to us about those streams and how your developed them?
Yes, we provide hair services, we have product available for purchase, and we sell our own brand of different formulated products. While now I am investing into buying land and stock accounts
