We were lucky to catch up with Jailiene Vazquez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jailiene, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally since I was a child. I’ve always been interested in drawing, pictures, stories, music – things that would challenge and awaken my creative thoughts. While I haven’t gone to school for a specific fine art type degree, I am always wanting to learn about the history of art, learn all sorts of techniques to elevate my projects, and learn about those who pioneered their art specialty.
Tomorrow (June 8) will have been exactly one year since I decided I was going to get serious about learning how to tattoo. Time definitely flies when you’re having fun! I’ve spoken with many artists in passing while on my tattoo journey, picking their brains about some of their favorite inspirations and soaking up whatever tips I can from their words and their tattooing. Along with that, I’ve had so much fun learning about the overall history of tattooing: where is came from, how it originated across different cultures, how it started in America, the founding fathers (and some founding mothers) of certain specialties.
Art is something I’m incredibly passionate about so it only makes sense that I go for a creative professional pathway!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi, my name is Jailiene Vazquez and I hope to tattoo you one day! I am incredibly passionate about art and people. Once I am a tattooer, I promise to provide the best service I can to all my clients.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing how happy people get when they receive your work. As humans, artists especially, I believe we are our own worst critic. We see all of the wobbly lines, an unblended shadow, empty spaces where color is supposed to be, etc. That doesn’t matter anymore because if your client loves what you did and is happy then you have no choice to be happy with it, too! We aren’t perfect beings, so I like to look at my own mistakes as “giving this piece some character!”
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
While I’m still very much a small entity on social media (Instagram specifically), I’ve been accumulating a steady following of folks who really dig what I’m doing! It’s hard to get your name out in such an oversaturated environment, but the promotion feature Instagram offers has helped a lot in growing my audience. I recommend new artists to try promoting a few of their posts too see what type of people they bring in! Happy to say all of my new followers are real people and not bots!
