We recently connected with Jai Santiago and have shared our conversation below.

Jai, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?

I think the most meaningful project, to-date, has been the short film that I wrote about mental illness. It’s an adaptation from a nonfiction narrative written several years ago, and it’s ultimately about how family and loved ones deal with another family member who’s battling the disease.

Jai, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

As a voiceover artist, I help brands and clients by lending a voice to projects that help them connect with their core audience or consumers more on a personal level. More times than not, we connect with those products or brands that are not only useful, but seemingly tend to know us. Kind of like getting a recommendation from a trusted friend – people connect with that. Similarly as an actor, I’m given the opportunity to help tell and move a story along.

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?

The most simple thing someone can do, from a social media pov, is to like, share or repost something. Another way is to show support by going out to live shows, going to that premiere when you can – just show up for those creatives in your circle or network. You know, in the best and worst of times… it’s the products of creatives that help hold things together and move things along. I mean, think about how there’s a song for every emotion, or those films that give us a glimpse into other aspects of life that we’d otherwise have no way to experience. Those things that we get lost binging on… help to take our minds off of things, and can even help restore our faith and belief in something bigger than ourselves.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

For me, the most rewarding is being a part of something that helps bring context to a subject. I truly enjoy telling colorful stories in any form – voice or on-camera.
