We were lucky to catch up with Jai Bhatt recently and have shared our conversation below.

Jai, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.

I have put my last savings in buying internet to do work as in freelancer to be on my own. Before that I have job experience of around 7-10 years in Market Research Field and was doing quite well but I always wanted to something of my own, even if was small.

I had last savings of 3k in my account after which I didn’t have any funds to even buy my groceries and I bought 6 month of broadband connection with that to see what I can do and here I am with a staff of 10 and expanded in to 1 mother company and 3 child companies born from it.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

One of my friend was on Fiverr and showed me freelancing project for graphics and presentation of some guy he was not able to understand and showed me if I can work. That’s a NASA guy, and I figured out a way to solve all graphics and presentation problem for which he was more than happy and gave me a side job for all his projects in 2012. This was with my current on going job.

But later on after projects was complete and I thought I have enough work I have already quit job, all of sudden no works at all and here’s when I wanted to start my own. Went out to get client, and my first individual job was to create a website for a photographer for USD 50 and it was a miracle. I worked for a project enough man hours that’s worth more than $1000 and gave it in USD 50 but with his single trust and refer I started getting client. Again was back with NASA, some other clients with direct contacts and also finally hitting market to get noticed by big players in India.

Got an opportunity to work with India’s biggest political party, worked even for MCU franchise in Spider-man into Verse graphics, and currently working with among top 30 pharmaceuticals as their IT vendor.
