Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jahmirris Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Jahmirris , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
I hope my legacy is best known for the hard work and sacrifice I made for the next generation of young Black music executives and serial entrepreneurs. I hope my great great great kids will follow my blueprint to success and see what it takes to be the greatest you can be in life. One of the reasons I go so hard is knowing I have kids and they need an idol to look up to cuz I’m lit lmmfao
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Pyramid Gang Entertainment was a brand I started in high school which later after I graduated turned into a full company that had buzzing talent coming from it in my region. One of the things that disciplined me was having patients and not rushing things that needed nourishment, and time to grow. One of the things that set me apart from others in my business is I’m 28 and guys who usually try to come into the music industry at that age are probably trying to rap or produce I decided to just run the label and manage acts. Those kinds of things keep the music going strong outside of other career jobs in the business.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients is watching certain acts on social media or going to their shows to see how they react to an audience and fans and see how serious they are before we get behind them and invest TIME, money, and resources. Another way is building relationships with people that are close to the certain artist to see what kind of people and crowd they keep around them which can determine artist longevity.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the best lessons I’ve learned in this business is DO NOT LISTEN TO EVERYBODY with a so-called job title or opinion, these things will have you chasing your tail and not going anywhere. Having creditable people with real-life lessons in this business will help out a lot.
