Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jahleen Reid. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Jahleen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Success, to me, comes from being authentically yourself and staying in your own lane instead of constantly worrying about what others are doing. It’s about mastering your niche rather than trying to be a jack of all trades. When you focus on what truly aligns with your passion and skills, you naturally excel and stand out.
When I first started in the aesthetics industry, I wanted to do it all—skincare, waxing, eyelashes. I thought the more services I offered, the more successful I’d be. But over time, I realized that spreading myself too thin wasn’t helping me grow. Instead of becoming great at one thing, I was just okay at everything. That’s when I decided to shift my focus entirely to skincare, the area I was most passionate about. Once I did that, everything started to fall into place. I was able to refine my skills, build a strong reputation, and attract clients who trusted me as an expert.
I think real success comes when you stop comparing yourself to others and focus on your own growth. It’s easy to get caught up in what everyone else is doing, but when you trust your own path and commit to mastering your craft, that’s when you truly thrive.

Jahleen, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Jahleen, and I’m the proud mother and founder of Luminous Aesthetic Inc. My journey into skincare wasn’t just a career move—it was personal. After having my child, I struggled with my own skin and quickly realized how hard it was to find professionals who truly understood melanated skin. The industry often overlooks the unique needs of darker skin tones, and I saw firsthand how frustrating and isolating that could be. Instead of settling for the lack of representation, I decided to become the expert I wished I had.
Since 2018, I’ve dedicated myself to corrective skincare, helping people not only transform their skin but also regain their confidence. At Luminous Aesthetic Inc., we specialize in advanced treatments tailored for diverse skin tones, making sure that every client—especially women of color—feels seen, heard, and properly cared for. Whether it’s hyperpigmentation, acne, or overall skin health, I take a science-backed, results-driven approach to create customized treatment plans that work.
But my mission goes beyond just treatments. I’m passionate about educating and mentoring future estheticians, particularly women who want to break into the industry but don’t always see themselves represented. I believe that representation matters and that more women of color deserve to step into this field with the confidence and expertise to thrive.
What sets me apart? I’d say it’s the combination of personal experience, professional expertise, and my commitment to my community. Skincare isn’t just about looking good—it’s about feeling good in your own skin, and that’s what I strive to provide. My goal is to make sure every client who walks through my doors leaves not only with healthier skin but also with the knowledge and tools to maintain it long-term.
I’m most proud of the trust my clients place in me. Seeing their confidence grow as their skin improves is the most rewarding part of what I do. If there’s one thing I want people to know about Luminous Aesthetic Inc., it’s that we’re here to uplift, educate, and empower—because everyone deserves to feel radiant in their skin.

Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
Skincare started as a side hustle for me while I was a full-time student, trying to balance school, being a single parent, and figuring out how to make ends meet. At the time, I wasn’t really working, and it was tough. But what really pushed me into this field wasn’t just the need for extra income—it was personal. I had struggled to find skincare professionals who truly understood melanated skin, and I knew I wasn’t the only one. That gap in the industry is what first sparked my interest in aesthetics.
I started small, offering treatments on the side while juggling my studies and parenting. At first, it was just a way to make things a little easier financially, but as time went on, I realized how much people valued what I was doing. The support I received from my community was overwhelming—clients trusted me, referred their friends, and kept coming back. That’s when I started thinking: What if I took this seriously?
The real turning point came during the pandemic. Like many people, I had a moment of reflection about what I really wanted to do with my life. I decided to take the leap, quit my job, and go all in on my business. It was scary, but I knew deep down that if I poured my energy into skincare full-time, I could turn it into something bigger. And that’s exactly what happened.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has definitely been a combination of word-of-mouth referrals and social media.
Word-of-mouth has been a game changer because when people see real results and have a great experience, they naturally want to share it. Skincare is personal, and trust is everything—so when a client refers their friend, family member, or even a stranger who complimented their skin, it carries so much weight
Social media has also played a huge role. It allows me to not only showcase my work but also educate and connect with people who might not have found me otherwise.
