We recently connected with Jafet Munoz and have shared our conversation below.
Jafet, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
The thing about being an artist or a creator, its not always sunshine and rainbows. Sometimes things will get in the way that might seem to prevent you from accomplishing something all the way, but ultimately it’s the way u adapt to those scenarios that eventually you find how to surpass it and then you find the way at the end. In that aspect, I then could say that could be the happiness that comes alongs at the end. For me , I’m still “in the process” of it all but, when it comes down to it I love what I do. Whether it be shooting videos, or seeing the homies make a song and then doing a video for those songs, it is just a beautiful thing how many creators can all come together and make something happen creatively.
Do I sometimes wonder what it would be like to have a regular job?
Well, as much as I like to wonder I don’t, I do. Aside from being a creative, having a regular job isn’t that bad. You kinda just have to show up and do the work, almost like school. We didn’t like to do homework or do as we told, and it’s the same way in any job. Sometimes you gotta find a way to love what you hate doing. once you’re able to do that you kinda just accept it for what it is. The way I see it, if your able to have a regular job and also do the things you love on the side, its just another reason to continue going about your passions and make something out of it. Then you’ll be able to find some kind of balance to do everything all at once.
Jafet, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello everyone, I go by MINI. I am a creative director/ artist based out of the Central Valley. I am from El Centro CA, raised in a small town in Seeley CA, out in Imperial valley. I became an entrepreneur when I first got my video camera for music videos. One day I was in middle of class looking for cameras and I decide to just buy one right then and there. From then on I started out with a local rapper in Kingsburg Ca, and after quite some time I decided to move up to NorCal to reach out to more up and coming artist. Little did I know how far it was going to go by just being a videographer. From then on I have met so many creatives along in Turlock CA, Atwater CA, Stockton CA, Tracy CA, San Jose CA, Los Angeles CA, any many other locations and till this day, I have learned from all these amazing creatives. Not only did they push me to be the best, but they also kept inspiring me to do what I do creatively. Sometimes If it wasn’t for them, I wouldn’t know how to see things outside the box. With this camera I have bought, this tool was the key to my full creative world because of how much I could do with it but with so little. Now, with being around creatives that can do a lil bit of everything such as producing music, shooting videos, performing or even just by helping on a set to hold a light can lead to putting something together or even better the next time. When everyone sees the visions for what it is, it will become effortlessly and fun. Our creativity is at our own dispense really.
After I realize I wanted to do more than just shoot videos I wanted to make it a lifestyle. So I then went on to creating a brand what is now called “NO TRIP ROSE”. The whole ideas was to create something to represent not just a name but a journey of full creatives and artist that were part of the N.T.R world in collaboration with other creator worlds. I then began to piece together to as what I wanted it to become and it was just whatever I decided to show for it. Some would be events of the artist performing, or even just the music videos I created with the artist. Some vlogs here and there of studio sessions and kick backs with all the plebada. One thing led to another and I went as far as creating my own merch too. Creating the shirts was cool and all but seeing it come to life and then having them physically just showed me it’s possible to really believe in what you want and BOOM, its just happens.
I was always with my best friend Kevin. Ever since high school we been in this music stuff since then on. As we got older we went our separate ways but between that time I was doing the videography stuff, he was out there DJing at every party or show that he can get booked at ,he’d take it. Most of the time id go for support just because it was a dream come true to see the boy go up on a stage and just do his thing like he always said he do. So ever since, I redirected my path a little bit and got together with Kevin and I began to film him at his shows, or just him producing, or recording live sets for him. We always had a vision for all this. We were in high school talking bout doing big things. Later to come find out we both put in the work that had involved music or visuals whatever it may be creatively that opened doors for us individually. For the love that we have for the EDM scene, we went as far as creating our own label for what is know as today “FUTURE TRAP RECORDS”. Ultimately, for F.T.R. we wanted it to be something “out of this world”. Experimenting with different sounds and adding the FUTURE TRAP sauce in everything while trying to vibe off a space like feel was the initial aesthetics we was going for. With all the experience and time that we got to know more about the game, we took it upon ourself to use everything we knew and start promoting our own events. It was definitely new to us, we learned so much along the way in hopes of making the next ones better and better. We would go as far as creating a full production to promote our events in collaboration with the djs and anyone who would like to be part of that creatively.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I think the most rewarding thing about being a creative is that you learn things that make your creative characters come to life. It’s the growth that one takes along the way to fully understand what one’s trying to build for their creative character. With trial an error or switching up your creative style its only the process to becoming unique as a creative. It can be a hard thing at times because with so many ideas that can come to mind can be overwhelming, but the way I think about its like this, when ur thinking so hard about something and you have nothing to think about, your in the process of making something great. It begins to be a motive to wanting to keep creating, like “Alright what’s next”.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Overall, my particular goal is to just be around people that wanna create in every which way. Whether it be shooting for music videos or shorts films, or making a song, whatever the case may be just to bring the people together to create such things.
