We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jaelyn Barnes a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Jaelyn, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Ultimately no matter how minuscule the event may be there is a reason that drives that action. As far as naming my experience, there were a lot of factors involved. Picture this; years upon years spent in adolescence striving for the highest level in a competitive sport. Typically consistently overlooked by other schools in your area, an opportunity presents itself where a scout is attending your game. Unfortunately it wasn’t your day and you underperform, scout takes note of this singular performance and negatively impacts your rating. Scholarships are potentially lost, playing chances period, and a overall OneStar rating. I saw this happen often in highschool where athletes were judged off of one performance. How could you evaluate someone in one encounter especially when the stakes are demanding. Turning this negative phrase was a huge goal for me and then it hit me. Everybody is a star, we’re all OneStar. Ever since I had said epiphany the message continues to get clear. Encouraging others to embrace themselves and believe from within. That’s the beauty of the message.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
A few years ago I would not have guessed I would be in the position I am in now. Fashion was never something I found enjoyment in until my sophomore year of highschool at South Gwinnett in East Metro ATL. Granted I wasn’t working a job at a time, but the trends in fashion were all around me. With the good appearance came so much more. I searched for a new wardrobe but found a way to stamp myself. Why wear someone else’s when I can wear my own? Though the genius thought struck me in 2017, the first physical product wouldn’t be produced until 2019. Released a straightforward simple text tee and haven’t stopped since. Many obstacles have occurred with the biggest being surviving a rebranding. As I fell in love with clothing I found the desire really lied in originality. I wanted the brand to pay attention to detail, incorporate original ideas, vibrant colors, and a honest message. This is being achieved by the brand avoiding labels. People should know that this is a community and they are apart of something bigger. Our clientelle must understand they are the company.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Social media has strayed a lot of people in my opinion from real life experiences. The most support, transactions, and connections have came from meeting individuals in public. After all, if you want to be successful you must put yourself out there.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Creating something eternal really gives me peace at times. Sure the material will deteriorate but for that span that art will be exposed to much. We only life one life so I feel it’s only right to leave a lasting imprint in any way you can. The respect will follow along with the indention into history!
