We recently connected with Jae Santiago and have shared our conversation below.
Jae , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
What’s going on beautiful people! My name is Jae Santiago I am a Lancaster Pa native who has managed to launch two businesses within a 7 year time frame. First and foremost let me give you a brief bio about me and how I got started! I am a 32 year old queer Latina who thrives off of fashion, art, music community and inclusivity! I moved back to Lancaster from LA back in 2015 and that’s when the determination of starting something dope in my hometown started. I ended up securing a store front and that’s when my vision for my thrift boutique started to come to life. With years of persistence and dedication I am finally a local staple for vintage clothing, art and locally crafted accessories. I specialize in styling and providing a safe space for folks to dive into their style journey. My store is called Basura you can find me in IG @digbasura ! 7 years running now and still growing! Next I have my second gig which is called Highfever. An lgbtq themed party I launched in 2015. This party is a huge phenomenon in Lancaster. It has drawn people in from all over the US due to its high energy essence and high quality entertainment. We have all types of drag performers, acts, pole dancers burlesque, and costume contests, it’s really the it party of the east coast! You can look us up in If as well at @hi_ghfever needless to say I have been able to really tap into all my creative abilities and bring my visions to life! It is possible to chase your dreams and that the message I aspire to share.
Jae , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am most proud of the fact that people supported the cause. People have trusted me as a vessel of expression and creativity and that means the world to me. I do this all for the people! My socials have been able to grow tremendously through the years due to my commitment to providing consistent quality work. You have to believe in yourself and dedicate to your force and ambition. It starts with you!
Any advice for managing a team?
I personally am a solo soldier in this industry, I have the type of dna that can tackle everything I say I want to achieve. I’m an action person and it takes leaving into yourself and understanding that it doesn’t happen over night. You have to hold grave for yourself and remain patient. Little goals turn into bigger ones, and once you start seeing them come into fruition it propels you towards higher levels of your business journey.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
A lot of my clients come from social media and word of mouth! Lean into your community, network and always present yourself! Own your abilities and share your story, people are always listening and eager to connect.
